My Grandfather picked up a few carson cities for face in the sixties. He gave all but one away to a friend that had a collection stolen. Now I have his last carson city. Its one of my favorite coins.
On a side note, my Grandfather has two original Morgan $1000 bags. He also got them in the early 60's. I havent had a chance to look through them because I didnt actually realize what they were until I joined these boards.
Dicky: It would be interesting to find out if your gradfather's 2 original Morgan $1000 Dollar Bags are Uncirculated and which date & mintmark they are.

Back in those day you could go into a Federal Reserve and exchange silver certificates for Silver Dollars. As I remember they later placed a limit of 5 Silver Dollars per exchange.
I used to go to the bank c. 1962 and exchange silver certificates for silver dollars (Morgans and Peace dollars). Still have them all. Unfortunately, I "shined" them all up real good (including an unc. 1928-S Peace).

I'm not sure if that's because it was too clever or too lame.
