I too had a similar thing happen. I purchased several cameo coins from them in the late 90's, probably about 9 or 10. Not tons of money, maybe two or three thousand total. I wanted to change direction and sent them in for an offer. After about three months I gave up and had them returned. But instead of harboring any ill will, which I do not, I became more imaginative in my efforts to secure cameo coins. To wit, buying proof sets and cutting them out myself. Doing that was risky, and I did lose lots of money for a while. Then I became very good at what i was doing, and now I make very good money at it. In fact, Rick's company has bought at least two of my coins(in PCGS holders which I made at PCGS) within the past year from me using the EBAY venue. Any money I lost on the original coins I purchased from them was made up in those two coins. So they did me a favor when they did not buy those coins back from me. I thank him very much. As far as using his site, I have no need to do so. EBAY fits my needs perfectly. But that is strictly a business decision, not personal.
<< <i>Yikes, so do I understand the bids from Jerryyo were made from Madmarty's laptop??? All of them over a long period of time, or just one every now and then??? >>
Every now and then, I have the laptop and we would meet at Starbucks to shoot the chit. He actually one bid from my machine once or twice, and while I was delivering other coins he won. Just a stupid error on my part. Either E-Bay will agree or my coins will be on TT from now on.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

THis is no surprise at all. PCGS likes to ban forum member accounts based on the spurious (and often false) conclusion that two (or more) people can't possibly use the same computer. Even after PM contact with Carol about this, she still hasn't clarified CU's position on this (computer IP numbers). Big Brother technology gone wrong.

Sounds like EBAY was 'laying in the weeds' for awhile, monitoring the account and eventually thought they had the goods. Given the bids from another user that came from MadMarty's laptop...I can see the reason for their concern. Hope its all a big misunderstanding...of course having one party to the transactions not around to confirm the story to EBAY is a bad coincident also.
Wow, what a bunch of crap. After examining the evidence and history of bids. I see a very very WEAK case for ebay. Most of those bids seen here, were legitimate bids IMO. I personally would have bid nearly the same amount as did jerryyo on nearly all of those auctions. Specifically the proof coins. It would appear that he was just looking for a good deal, which we all do as coin collectors.
All I can say is I really enjoy reading your posts here and watching yours and Russ's auctions. I hope everything works out.
Hopefully, MadMarty didn't allow Jerryyo to list his own auctions from MadMarty's laptop also or else EBAY will be going crazy. All the stuff about who was bidding on whose stuff isn't that significant IMO. Friends bid on friends items all the time and sometimes exclusively. It's the joint use of a single workstation to make the bids that has the chance to be powerful proof. If Jerryyo only made occasional bids from MadMarty's machine that's no big deal and when he becomes available he can confirm that for EBAY. If Jerryyo made most or all of his bids from MadMarty's machine or from some public terminal like a library, that's more problematic. Also, If Jerryyo listed or started his own EBAY auctions from MadMarty's machine, that would freak out EBAY. I don't know the relationship between the parties, but I point this up because I also occasionally allow friends to use my laptop without monitoring what they are doing. Now I see if they are conducting Fleabay business on my machine, it could cause me problems.
Two years ago I got suspended for a week for suspected shill bidding, I had a buyer in Taiwan that would bid on every Kennedy I listed (he would win a boatload also), the guy had a total feedback of 3 and E-bay suspended me on a Friday. After the buyer called E-bay from Taiwan and I called from here the account was reinstated Monday morning. The buyer liked that I would ship overseas and would send cash registered mail. Same thing some filed a complaint that a low feedback bidder was bidding on only my auctions and E-bay suspended us both.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Jerry has never listed one of his auctions from my machine. But he has in the past resold some of the coins he has bought from me.

If I follows this correctly than my current bidding actions could get me and the seller naru'd. I'm going through a stage of find a Roman Anciet from seller AAH so I'll list all his auction then bid cheaply on about 10 of them at a tune, as I lose most of those bids (because I'm cheap) I keep adding from the list until I've gone through everything I like. I'll end up being high bidder on only a few of them so as the day goes by and I get outbid I'll increase one or two a little at time until I hit my absolute level. I'm not shilling, just looking for a rip and I don't want to take the chance of winning too many auctions.

I like Marty. I hope ebay lets him back on in a few weeks. Im sure now he will be careful to keep his friendship seperate from his business. I dont think any of the bidding Jerry did materially affected the outcome of the auctions. Maybe this thing will be good in the long run. I hope so. As far as some people thinking I worry about who is selling what, that is silly. A coin in a PCGS or NGC holder is what it is. They bring a certain price pretty much. What Marty or anyone else sells does not affect what I sell one iota. What I sell does not affect what they sell. Anyone who sells a lot of coins knows this fact.

What a lot of people don't understand is that I am not a coin dealer, I'm not even a WANNABE dealer. I just buy and sell coins to pay for my darkside habit. The people who are going to suffer is PCGS, NGC, E-Bay, Paypal and the regulars who buy my stuff.

Marty, I know you are a straight up (if slightly "special" - LOL) guy. Send me the images of the coins you want to sell & I'll list them for you. You can still deal with the shipping yourself after I forward the money to you from the buyers - I trust you.
I've been too broke to shill bid anything lately. Now that my son's wedding is over and my daughter's tuition paid, I'll be enjoying the next 30 days of Marty free sniping on Ebay.
