Why would anyone use the one day option on ebay?

I see many coins that are sold using the one day option. I was wondering why sellers would even consider this, especially when they don't take paypal so you have to mail a check or money order. Even if they do take paypal, what is the purpose? Prices are almost always a lot lower. Just wondering if there is something I am missing?

I can see if for metals, but according to eBay....
If you want to sell items quickly in an auction format. If you are selling time-sensitive items (for example, event tickets, airline tickets, vacation packages, tee times, food, etc.). If you're a high volume seller listing a lot of identical items. With 1-day listings, you can offer more listings for identical items per week than with any other auction-format listing duration. Currently eBay allows you to list only 10 identical items simultaneously. If you are a high volume seller, the 1-day listing format lets you offer up to 70 listings for identical items per week, compared to only 20 per week with the 3-day listing format. If you want to take advantage of event-based marketing (for example, one-day-only product releases). If you want to attract more last-minute shoppers during the holiday season. You can schedule 1-day listings as close to the holiday event as possible. This gives you the advantage of being able to mail sold items to reach your buyers in time for the holiday event.

I would think most of the action takes place on the last day of either a 9, 6, or 3 day auction. So, why sit around waiting for people to bid on the last day. Make the first day the last day and save yourself waiting 6 days.

It's a great opportunity for scammers to nail a sucker before Ebay has a chance to respond to a safe-harbor fraud report, but Ebay still gets a fee and has a great excuse (insufficient time).

Perhaps they don't understand how auctions work...

The only time I've sold on a 1-day format is when I got some $100 Ocean in View boxes from the nickel releases on the coast. Got the first box up at noon on the day of the exchange and it went for $255 in 24 hours. Ever since then the prices have tended to drop since there are many more auctions up.

Most often, I see them for concert tickets that are being sold very close to the event date.

True when I sell something on ebay most of the bidding action takes place on the last day. However, those other days allow people more time to find my auction, do their research, and decide on bids. I get many more visits to the auction if I run it for 7 days. A comparison between 3,5, and 7 day auctions I did yielded the best results for 5 and 7 days. Three days didn't give it enough exposure. Individual results may vary.
