I have been hacked!

The forum part of my website has been hacked and is totally destroyed image

Seems there is a group of folks who get off on this because they are actually advertising on my space!
Nope, I do not have a back up!

Sadly, these people are rarely found, and even more rarely incarcerated.image
Everything I write is my opinion.

    Looking for alot of crap.

That's a real shame......they aren't creative enough to put their talents to good use....they would rather destroy what others have worked hard to create image

Looking at it, it looks like your data is all still there which is the most important thing. You may be able to just fix your phpbb templates or upgrade to the latest phpbb version and get your forums back.

You might want to post at the PHPBB site and someone there might be able to lead you through it.

Same thing happened to the bust coin forum recently. Lots of historical information gone instantly. Anyone who runs a forum should make an effort to record or otherwise back up the historical information. I have no clue how one does that, but without 100% security, it is a necessity.

Not that you should need a backup, but why don't you have a backup? It just makes good sense these days, as you have found out.

I hope it won't take too long for you to get back what you lost.

There is no creativity in this. They're just punks running automatic scripts against web sites looking for security holes. Real hackers don't waste their time with piddly stuff like this.

You're in luck: Google's cache might have saved you.

In case the above link doesn't work, just enter cache:http://www.yoururl.com/site.html in Google, using the proper URLs of course.

That's your site-pre hack. Download it soon before they cache the new one. Be sure to install the latest phpbb security update too...I know there have been some recently.

I agree. I administer a phpBB board, and I noticed this one was running 2.0.5 of the software, which is an old one that has a lot of known security holes.

You went through the same thing right? Did you have back ups? I'm sure you did ........

Rather then let this guy have his way with my forum, I deleted it from my FTP server image
He uploaded some of the original forum and posted his own artwork on the site and banned me as a member so I could not post. Of course he took away my admin abilities.
    What a load of ****!

I had backups when just the forum got hit a couple of times. It was still a pain to get everything back up and the back ups were always a few days old.

But, when the server got trashed, the backups didn't do me any good as I couldn't even get access to the server any more in any way. That is when I gave up on running a coin forum and gave it all up to someone else. Since then, the other sites I run are so below the radar that no one cares about hacking them. image

Sorry to hear it, Jason. I went through the same thing a while back and decided it was best to just start fresh. Luckilly, much of the old information was still available via Google-cached pages.

My installation was very old and I hadn't backed up in some time. Since that original install, my hosting company has added support for phpBB and has an auto-update feature. And, I try to back it up more often.

Thanks. I'm trying one more thing and if it doesn't work, it's a wash. I can think of ONE person who is enjoying this ..... if he even knows. I don't care though because it makes all of this worth it knowing what I know image ....... You hear that James? image
