The total retail value was $25,000+.

As many of you know, I am relatively new to the business (six years full time), I am not a wannabe (I'm in this for life) and this is a terrible hit for me.

If anyone has any email addresses of dealers in New England/New York area that do not participate on the list, I would appreciate having them PM'd to me. Any help to get the word out is greatly appreciated.

That's terrible news, Tim. I sincerely hope you get your stuff back. Best of luck spreading the word around. Maybe contact Richard Nachbar (coinexpert.com) who is near Buffalo. I remember that he passed out flyers at a Baltimore show trying to find the owner of a collection that someone brought to his shop to sell and he had a suspicion they were stolen (the seller dropped them off for an offer but didn't return). That really impressed me that he'd go to the effort of passing flyers around.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Man ........Now that sucks!

    PURPLE!
  • That really sucks. Keep checking Ebay and if you have cert #s, post them here. If you can find just one item, maybe you can track down the slimeball and put his a++ in jail cause thats what someone like that deserves. Do you have any type of insurance that covers any of your inventory? You should be able to write these items off as a business loss. Talk to a CPA. Sorry to hear about this.

Sorry to hear about the robbery Tim - hopefully you were insured.

If you haven't yet done so, you might might contact the PNG (760) 728-1300 and the Certified Coin Exchange (800-733-6623)

Each should/might be able to notify their participating dealer networks and spread the word.
  • That sucks Tim. Good luck with your recovery efforts. You know I'm in the area. I'll send you a PM with the places I shop in VT, and I'll keep my eyes open.
  • T. Puro; Sorry to hear about your loss; I will keep my eyes open and watch all the various auction sights, Your coins very well might turn up in the future at auctions... Good Luck and I hope we can help you to find them...

Thank you to everyone for the encouragement and advice.

We were unable to get insurance for our material at the consignment shop. I don't know of anyone that has insurance there. It is one of largest and best known here in New England. The scumbag who robbed us broke into the shop, hit only two booths and was out of there in less than five minutes. The other dealer took a $35,000 hit.

I'm going to see if I can come up with some of the cert #s. I may only be able to figure out a few of them. I'll post them when I get them.

If the jerk who stole these items doesn't take the coins out of the 2x2s, or take the stickers off the slabs and jewelry, all of the coins will have our dealer number (569) listed.

I'll be sending emails out tonight, so if anyone has any email addresses of NE/NY dealers, I would appreciate it.

My gut feeling is that the thief already had these fenced or it was a contract hit. In any event, the brains behind the operation is going to have to slip up for you to get these back. You'll want to be careful as somebody with smarts has these coins right now. Let's hope they do a slip up.
    Have a nice day

That really sucks, Tim. Someone else mentioned it , but I'd think it'd be a great idea to copy the list (I realize it's huge, I'm still printing) and distribute it at the Albany show as well as any others (New Haven?) I know I'll be looking out for anything suspicious. Best of luck!

Sorry to hear about it Tim.

Why can't dealers get insurance at that place?

That's horrible, Tim. There are a slew of dealers in the greater Boston area; a good many of them are in the PCGS dealer guide. Not all, but a lot. You might be able to get something to the folks who organize the Nashua & Westford shows, among others. Good luck -- that's a big hit.

When I called a few years ago, they would not insure the consignment shop because the locks and cases were not secure enough.

If anyone would like an Excel file of the inventory, I am happy to email a copy to you.

    Thanks again!

  • Hi Tim:

Sorry to hear about that. I copied your list and included your link to the full list and emailed it to about 20-25 New England/New York area coin dealers.
