How to shrink a coin image in prep for Icon Download Day?

I've got my "favorite" coin imaged for use as my icon, but the best shrink I can do w/ my system so far is 217x225 and 18.5 kb in a jpeg file. Anyone know how to make it fit so I can have it handy for Icon Download Day? Thanks.

I don't know how to make it fit because I use Gimp and it resizes everything, but here is a 100 × 100 (5.5kb) of your image.

Thats cool, Man. What prgram did you use for that?

The only way I could get it below 10kb was taking it down to 70x70 and that was a tad small

I use a free Photoshop-like software called Gimp the latest version is 2.2.8.

It is very stable and easy to use and free. Ask around I think it's popular.

There is also one that imitates Photoshop called Gimpshop they are coming out with anew version soon.

You can shrink a picture with a basic program like Paint, which is on most Puters. Just use the stretch/skew command.

True Paint is the quickest and most stable it handles more than people would think but I just did these with Gimp in two minutes

Russ turned me onto a program called, Thumbs Plus, which can be downloaded for a 30 day free trial. It is very easy to use.

RYK just I just went to that site, the program is very camera friendly it does EXIF files editing which is nice. It's cheaper then Photoshop but not still not free.

Thanks to you and Russ it's always good to have software alternatives that are less then $700, I learned QuarkXpress in college and you can make a professional magazine with that $1,000 bad boy.

I learned from Russ a long time ago....

In Paint, click on 'image' up on top of the screen, go into 'stretch/skew', and then you choose what percentage you want for height and width of the image....works like a charm

icon download day is once a month around the 15th.

I know about Gimp photoeditor. It's designed to do most everything that adobe does. It's a favorite of the Linux folks.

Geez, Thumbs Plus is up to Version 7 and I'm still using Version 3.

It also costs less now.

Yupp! Most simple programs you can even set the pixels for height and width. Just enter 100 in both.

How to shrink an image.

In MS Paint:
File ⇒ open ⇒ (choose picture then open)
Image ⇒ Stretch/Skew enter the percentages until it's the size you want (maybe a bit inaccurate)
then save as normal

In MS Picture It 7.0:
File ⇒ open → (choose picture then open)
Format ⇒ Resize Image... ⇒
then you have 3 settings
1. portrait/landscape
2.custom resize in/mm/pix/cm
3.resolution per inch 72/150/300/600/1200
Very good for program because you get to pick you resolution.
then save as nromal

In Gimpshop 2.2.4
File ⇒ open ⇒ find the file where you have the pic. ⇒ (choose picture then open)
Image ⇒ Image Size ⇒
From here on choose width and height, resolution and interpolation customizable down to 1 pixel very precise.
then Layer ⇒ Flatten Image ⇒ then save as normal
