BUY, SELL, OR HOLD-SAINTS???

With oil rushing up, I think gold will follow. I can't decided whether to buy now or not.

My instincts says buy.

Opinions????

I agree. It's not just oil that's going up; the prices of several other commodities are also rising in the futures market due to Katrina. I heard a prediction of $4.00/ gallon for gasoline; that added cost will make other goods more expensive. I would expect gold to perform better than many other investments over the short term. With the savings rate in the U.S. being near zero now, people are going to have to cut back on spending SOMEplace. Let's see what happens to sales of new cars, electronics, and other frills, including coins.

I don't know about Saints--but since 25% of the refining in US is out for at least a month, I'd guess the value of gasoline is a guaranteed 20%++ profit in 2 weeks. Other commodities are heading north soon too--try 35%++ of US ag. exports out of New Orleans!---Actually gold is one commidity that doesn't have substancial price pressure right now.

I was thinking about this myself. Although if you're thinking in terms of gold, just get bullion. But I do think I might get me a bit of gold. But I was planning to anyway.

Bullsye, I agree with your instincts,Gold is on the way to $500 an ounce.Commonn Saints are a bargain in my eyes.

I'm going against the grain here- I think generic slabbed Uncirculated Saints are overpriced, so I would sell them if they were only bought for investment purposes.

buy ms63-65 generic saints

if you like them to collect and want a nice type coin or two or three etc.

but make sure you get correctly graded with no rub on knee nose eagles breast and top feathers strongly eye appealling two tone coins then you will do exceptionally well over the next few years

unfortunately as per the above only one coin out of 1000 you look at will qualify

Michael---I think your standards are unrealistic. According to the PCGS grading book, ALL Saints have some rub on the high points. The book went on to state that the MS68 graded by PCGS had disturbance to the luster on the knee. The book also states that the only Saints that did not have some rub were proofs and counterfeits.

Buy gold and silver period. The common Saints and Libs are close enough to hold and buy, if your wrong then at least you have a coin collection and not a bunch of bullion coins IMO. I've been buying and have no duplicates in my collection MS61-62 on Libs and MS62-63 on Saints. Many on these boards are going to be sorry they didn't buy gold or silver in the next 3 to 5 years.

Dollar down = Gold up and I have a feeling it's going down quite a bit more since so many want to spend, spend, spend with no savings.................

I have decided yesterday to buy some MS64 and MS66 Saints. I noticed spot was up a bit today.

I agree that gold is headed higher in the coming months and the dollar is going to get blasted.....Watch the talk about how the U.S. failed its citizens in New orleans......That alone will put pressure on the greenback.....$500 by year end without a doubt.....I think generic Saints in MS63 to MS66 are a steal at these levels.....Watch the prices realized at the Morse sale.....
