Why is this 1834 $2 1/2 going for so much?
Why is this 1834 NO MOTTO quarter eagle going for so much? Why does it show values up to $9k? I could understand if it were WITH MOTTO, but this I don't understand. Is this not a very common coin?

This is a $300-$400 coin.

I have an 1834 $2.50 that might net-grade F15. It's on my Holey Gold Hat. I paid $110 for it.
Come to think of it, they would probably net it down lower than that, for the hole. But it has nice details.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
<< <i>But would it not take at least a couple of bidders to bid it up that high? Already at $1500.00 plus the juice. Whether you buy the coin or the holder, it should not be a problem. Do people really buy the price guide???
The word "bidiot" comes to mind.
They probably think they'd be getting a rip at $1500 given the prices quoted.
