What do you do with a body-bagged coin?

I just got one back that was bagged. I don’t need that type for my type set any long, and the one that I have there I think has more eye appeal then this one.

Any ideas? I would feel bad knowingly selling it to someone without disclosing that information, but I think it is worth more then I could get for it if I didn’t.

It depends. If I think they're wrong, I resubmit it. About 80% have graded the second time through. If I think they're right, I may sell it with the bodybag or I may keep it in my "boy, was I stupid" box.

The coin is a 1859 IHC, Artificial Color. Looks good, and I actually thought if it was going to get BB'd it would have been for cleaning.

It really isn't that imortant me to get it graded. This was for my registered type set and I thought it was a nice looking IHC.

It might be worth a second try down the road. Maybe next years 8 freebies.

I think for now it will end up in my "pay closer attention when you buy raw coins" box only to moved someday to my "boy, was I stupid" box

Put it on ebay with a reserve price that you think is fair. Disclose the coins condition and that it was body bagged and why. If you like the coin chances are others will also. If you don't disclose it's condition you may well get it returned and risk a negative feedback.

I sell them on eBay with the bodybag just like everything else I no longer want.

From what I hear it's common to have these bagged, even if it really is OK. The services get really nervous with their copper guarantees. Try it again, or if so inclined, send it to another service.

There are just so many things that one could respond to there.

I like the idea of selling it with the bodybag and a reasonable reserve.

Sell it with the body bag to a collector, or sell it to a dealer without the body bag.

I got a coin back from PCGS BB for cleaning that my local dealer said would for sure grade 64. I might go see what he has to offer. Grading is subjective I guess. On second thought I probably bought it from him originally. Scammer

I'd submit to ANACS for a net grade and hope they don't have issues with the color.

I had that happen to a clean 78S for art. color--I dipped it and PCGS gave it a MS65--Then I took it back to the seller, showed it to him, and said I wouldn't be returning his MS-64 (he'd refused)image

The body bag is just a PCGS opinion. If I believe the coin is improperly evaluated, it goes back for a second shot. Otherwise the dime goes on to ebay with disclosure of problems. I've had proof dimes bb as altered surfaces at one grading service, then slab at another. So do not give up to easily if you believe the coin is problem free.

Since they are not worthy of PCGS plastic I just throw them away. image

I recently received a BB 1922 weak strike Lincoln that I submitted for a friend...it was marked "altered surface" and neither of us can tell - so he's re-submitting it. If it gets bagged again, then I think he'll try another grading service.
