2005: I'm tired of trees and lakes this year... Has the mint really become this LAME?

Just look at this crap...

Oregon:

Minnesota:

Ocean in View:

Almost every state in the country has lakes and trees, that doesn't mean I want to see it on 20 different coins. I mean, these 3 coins all in the same year? I dunno, maybe it's me but a lot of these new designs SUCK!

Crater Lake rocks! I went hiking along the river with my friends for 50 miles and ended up at Crater Lake. It was gorgeous. Also, I was at summer camp this last month and its right next to the beach.. I could have sworn I saw the exact place the Western Waters nickel ws modeled after. I saw it and was like "WHOA IT LOOKS LIKE THE NICKEL!" and everyone turned and looked at me funny image

I dunno, I like 'em. The MN quarter would be much better without the little state outline, tho'...

Crater lake is awesome, Mount St. Helens looks like a firecracker compared to the Mount Mazama Caldera. It is good to see a fishing scene on a state quarter, but they should have done away with the map and shown a mid-fifties Johnson outboard with all the Swedes in Minnesota.

Yeah. I guess we should get rid of these designs and replace them with...oh, I don't know...dead presidents? image

Oregon and the nickel look really nice. You know what's tiring, the bisons. Kansas, the old nickel, the new nickel, the commemorative, and I think that there are two other states that plan to use it. Minnesota, like p8nt said, you can bash all you want.

I think we went through something like this not to long ago with many suggestions of what else could be on coins. I'm sure the Mint will eventually start with all the strange things like what they did to the stamps. You'll soon see Elvis coins, Marilyn Monroe coins, etc. Now for our Chicago Coin we need an Al Capone coin with a Thompson Machine Gun on the reverse. The NASA coins will have rockets, New Mexico the A Bomb and not sure who will take credit for the NASCAR coins. How about a swamp for Florida Everglades? With our ever growing Hispanic population we could have a Matadore being gored by a bull on the obverse and the victorius bull on the reverse only it would be the bulls reverse. Odd that no one really complained about the coins look with the presidents and their homes or memorials for the last few hundred years.

    << <i>... New Mexico the A Bomb ... >>

Haha I wish. I'm from New Mexico and I can picture our quarter now in all it's glory:

Outline of state in background. Zia symbol in the middle (not worth explaining if you don't already know what this is) with a roadrunner and a yucca and "Land of Enchantment" written somewhere on the coin. So cliche and unoriginal for this state.. that's why I can already see it happening. Won't find out until the last year though... 48th state.

As for be being a grouch. image Ok, well maybe it's not the designs that suck, it's the variety that sucks! Great point about the bisons earlier too. I couldn't engrave any better if you want to put it that way.

Or designs that copied others states and look like they were slapped together the night before the deadline:

The way things are going, maybe next year or thereabouts they'll have new designs, ummm, let's see, "heroes of the new revolution" with photos of all the big government fanatics......( fill in the blanks)

I think the oregon quarter looks a lot better than the minnesota quarter- that one has way too much duck on it........ image
