Best place to turn in Bulk Silver?

Going thru my Mom's estate and she silver coins. Looking thru dates, most appear to be commons and in marginal condition. Thinking of turning it in and maybe gettiong each grandchuild a common date GOLD coin in lieu of all the silvber. Can anyone recommend a reputable dealer or place? Please respond via email if possible as I get on here infrequently...Thanks

Any coin shop will buy them. Just call and ask how much they are paying per dollar 90% scrap coins. They pay cash more of the time. You may want to enquire about a trade, it could get you a little better deal on gold coins in stock.

Most shops will buy junk silver -- ask around for their buying price, which may be 20-30 cents less per dollar (face value) than the actual spot silver price.

There's a decent chance that you'll get a better deal in trade than if requesting a cash payment.
  • I'd try selling the bulk silver at a coin show. Usually there's someone at a show, who specializes in bullion and junk silver, who would give you a better price, than just the average coin shop would.

Wait to a major coin show. More dealers to get quotes from. Will get top dollar. There are always dealers buying bulk silver.

Actually I just brought some and it was $5.10 per dollar face when silver spot was about $7 so you can expect fifteen or twenty cents less than the dealers selling price. I always ask for their buy and sell prices to see what the margins are. Check your local shops the one I deal with pays top dollar because of the demand and his buy/sell ratio's are very fair because of the volume he sales.
  • ebay is also a another good place to sell bulk coins at silver prices. I have been tracking prices there for the last six weeks and the bids have been better than I have seen elsewhere.

Just go to a local coin show or a local dealer.

Unless you have something Numismatically Cool, I don't think you'll do bad with that.
