I seem unable to link to it but take a good look at the certification number. I checked it out and it sure looks like someone just got roasted for $400 and it was almost me. I've never been so happy to LOSE an auction in my life. If anyone can link to it, by all means, please do so PCGS can see this.

That # sure looks strange, especially the second to last digit. I tried every combination I could think of in those closing moments, including the 9 and it was not bringing this coin up That's a mighty funny looking 9 as compared to the first one.

If you look under Bids, you'll see there was a cancellation. All this due to crappy/ questionable photo taking skills?

This statement is not true.

Bidder trainswatson917 cancelled his/her $100 bid because he/she felt the auction item may have been a fraud. However, the cert number does check out as the item listed.

I knew something was fishy about this, even the way he listed it. Well, there goes his 100% feedback.

What are you talking about? The number looks fine to me. The "strange" look is the result of compression of the image, and the number checks out fine. The guy who cancelled his bid is probably just nuts. I'd bet this auction is authentic.

Something definitely strange going on here because I tried the 5, a 7, and a 9 and none of them worked.

Well, in that case, I'm glad I was wrong and glad I didn't interfere but not at all glad that I missed a great buy due to funky picture taking ability. Damn!

Well, for what it's worth even though I believe the auction is legit, I still wouldn't have bid due to there not being a picture of the reverse, such a crappy obverse photo, and no return privelege being mentioned.

Well, if I had the money, I'd have bid this one, reverse or not. If the coin was legitimate, whch it appears to be, then the buyer on this one got a super deal. PCGS lists this puppy at $1900 and yeah yeah I know the price guide is way off, but even at a grand, wow!

Once again-this looks like the same thief that's been using stolen images and "seller assistants" to rip buyers. These sellers have no knowledge of coins-check their feedback-you'll see that none of the other items they've sold have anything to do with coins.

I just magnified the label on the slab and everyone of the digits and letters was PS. I saved the magnified label and it is 100% clear to me. I'll see if I can post this picture.

I've looked at countless PCGS slabs and never saw anything like this. During the auction I asked the seller, "What is the cert # on this coin?" He HEVER replied. I believe I'm about to see some startling revelations regarding these #s that never looked right and somehow changed becauses I tried a 3, a 5 , a 7 and a 9 as the second to last digit,.....the one that does not look right and NONE of them matched the #s at that time. EBay Security is dealing with it NOW.

Common sense dictates that if you just look at how the coin is listed, something is definitely amiss here. With a coin of this caliber it should have been listed more like this........... RARE, LOW POP PCGS 66 1934 LIGHT MOTTO WASH 25C.
The way it was listed (the title) was almost as if he did not want to draw attention to himself !

Check out the Bid retraction and cancellation history Heywood posted about the 36 proof.

Most of the bids were cancelled at the same time.
I would guess Ebay did this?

All I know is I came real close to getting burned. The pic did not set well with me nor did the lack of bidders or the way it was titled....the whole thing just felt..."creepy".

This is one time that reporting suspicious activity to eBay Security via the help page and live chat really worked.

There is definitely something wrong with this picture.

Got another letter from the buyer, This is what he says the seller ( a lady, BTW) had to say about it. Take it for what it's worth but frankly I'm not buying into it at all.

When she found out it was a fraud, she e-mailed all bidders( BALONEY, SHE NEVER EMAILED ME) and tried to get the item pulled from auction but e-bay wouldn't allow it cause it was within 12 hours. She apologized and refunded my paypal payment - lucky me. I want to thank you for your concern and time about this matter, it shows your integrity and honesty.

If you have the time, check out e-bay item #8321749260 and let me know what you think. It's a '36 D pcgs MS-66 quarter. It looks like the same setup as the 34 quarter but I checked the PCGS database and the coin is registered. Thanks again for your concern, john b

That's a crock because I emailed her thru eBay with an hour or so left to go in the auction and asked her for a closeup and one that included that vague cert #. Right.......I'm STILL waiting! SHE NEVER EMAILED ME AS SHE IS STATING SHE DID. When I reported this to Security and showed them the facts and where to access it, they flew into action. How she has not been NARU'd is beyond me UNLESS perchance what she claims just MAY be true but then again, what about that 36 Proof? Frankly, I ain't buyin' that story.

This latest item doesn't prove a thing. It's a legitimate cert # OK but this Newbie seller could very well have copied the image and be about to try to pull a fast one and just because a seller accepts PayPal doesn't amount to a hill of beans. He can hit (collect on the item) withdraw the funds real quick-like before the winner catches on and be well out of town with a couple thousand in his pocket/ a closed down account and no recourse for the person that got taken. This is why 99.9% of the things I buy are from fellow members I know quite well or established, reputable sellers/ dealers/ auction houses.

I'm late. Got some hungry dogs to feed.
