This is a HUGE problem for me. It would be like a mutual fund manager buying GE stock at 35 for himself, selling it to The Mutual Fund for 45 because over time, the stock will appreciate to 55. Mr. Noe should not have been running the coin fund and Vintage Coins (his rare coin business) at the same time. It sounds like the personal take from the coin fund would have been substantial enough.

My interpretation of this is a bit different.
Noe "rips" a coin for $100 which has a market price of $200. He then sells it to the fund for $200.
Although I don't have a problem selling coins to a fund at market prices, I see at least two issues: 1) How is the market price established? 2) Ripping unsuspecting sellers over the counter smacks of shady business practices. Not the type of people that should be running a multi-million dollar coin fund for the State of Ohio.

Why pray tell do you want to ban him? He's fairly active in the paper forum and we have just a handful of a regulars there.

I have to agree. We have so many people on these forums that are anonymous as far as their identity is concerned. The man has not, as far as I have seen, stated any of these articles to be fact or his own feelings, rather just linking the articles written by other people that are NOT anonymous. What are we going to do next, ban the linking of articles that don't fit the proper approval??
I read the thread as it happened, and all I see is a bunch of sucking up to Daddy. I know this sounds odd, but I always noticed Michigan's posts because I am a huge Packers fan. I've seen him post on other topics. And I have found the articles he's posted to be very interesting. I would love to know everything that went on in the coin fund scandal. I'm REALLY curious about the coins that "got lost in the mail". Yeah, right.

I agree with Ken, GullibleNewb, and Sphinx. Michigan has posted about a lot of other issues (state of health of coin vs. stamp hobby comes to mind). This is an internet message board, for goodness sakes.
I have no problems with Michigan. If you have a problem with him, don't read his posts. I think David Hall overreacted.

I really don't see that Michigan stated anything wrong. He voiced his opinion that things could get ugly. I think HRH did overreact. However, I can understand his standpoint. The articles tend to point fingers and some of those towards PCGS and HRH needs to protect his turf.
My guessis that Michigan is a reporter for Toledo Blade. We should give him a cool name as an informant. Instead of "Deep Throat" maybe "Deep Type"?
I have no problems with Michigan. If you have a problem with him, don't read his posts. I think David Hall overreacted.
Some of the posts were deleted from the thread. I do not think DH overreacted. It's his site, remember, he makes the rules. PCGS puts up with a whole lot of crap here, IMO.

The best way to get through the mindless posts here is to recognize those avators and the user names that consistantly add great input to the discussions. Once you can do that, you'll be able to zoom through 30+ threads in no time, whatsoever!

I find that I subconsciously do that, because it throws me for a loop when someone changes their avatar, or someone joins the board and picks a well-known avatar.

I'd talk some smack about the Badgers, but they really hung me out to dry last season. Heartbreaking. And I just can't hate other Big Ten/Eleven teams like I hate, oh, say NOTRE DAME. I hope they suck for years to come for dumping Tyrone.
I always root for all Big 10 teams during the (Poulan Weed Eater) bowl games (brought to you by Kibbles and Bits). For me college footbowl will be a farce until there is a playoff system.
Mr. Redfern was referring to a 1996 law, approved by Democrats and Republicans, that allows for unusual investment vehicles, such as rare coins, for some state money.
The state might only make money off those same coins, down the road, if they appreciated in value or if a buyer could be found that would pay more.
Makes me wonder if this was the reason for the birth of the Set Registries. A motivator for competition for profit.
Looking into my crystal ball, , I see some folks filing lawsuits to protect or save their investors because someone took their money away!
