Selling all my ASEs - Could use advice

I have told all of you about my milk spots on my 95W ASE.
Well, since then I have examined my entire collection. Three more of my coins are spotted. I'm so disgusted, I am selling the whole set.

I went to a local dealer and he offered me $4500 for all the coins, papers, boxes and Dansco album.

What do you think?

Thanks in Advance

You might hold out for more, try other dealers. Don't know anything about them, but they're hard to come by, right?image

The topic of milk spots was brought up in the Q and A forum about a month ago. If they are in PCGS slabs.
I think David Hall is trying to work with scientists on trying to fix milk spots that show up in PCGS coins because of the grading guarantee that PCGS holds to when the milk spots show up.
Perhaps if PCGS finds a way of fixing these spots it may be worth while to hold on to your coins for a while.

You should send the milk spotted coins back to PCGS under their grading guarantee. You will at least get some of your money back.

How or why should PCGS be willing to guarantee against milk spots. If this is indeed a mint defect I don't see how PCGS is responsible.

If the coins were graded without the milk spots visible and they showed up later than PCGS will still guarantee the coin. This was discussed in an earlier thread a few months ago. That is why PCGS is trying to find a way to correct these milk spots.

These coins from Rena are NOT pcgs... Rena. 2.2k to 2.7K for the 95W is about right considering the milk spot. The remaining coins in thier OMP are around 1K to 1.1K depending on thier grade.

    Best regards,

Correcting the milk spots is doctoring the coins. Can you get rid of copper spots on eagles and not say they are doctored.

  • Dan,

Thanks for clarifying that these coins are ALL RAW. I should have stipulated that again.

PCGS has nothing to do with this problem, nor does any other grading company. It's the damn mint. I testify to that!

Based on what you say Dan, I'm doing pretty good with the $4500.

That quote came from a dealer I don't know. I am now going to the dealer that I really trust.

    Wish me luck!

I'd like the name of that dealer too! image It sounds as if you got a great offer. The last offer I got for my MS69 PCGS 20 coin (no 1995W) SAE set was $500. And that was BEFORE I found all the spots. image

I think $4,500 for the set is too cheap even with the spot on the 95-W. If you have the complete set it should be more like $5,200. Just my opinion.

I've recently been trying to sell some of my proof ASE's on the BST board with little luck. While that offer is not top shelf its not too bad and I'm thinking you'll not get much more unless you ebay them individually. JMO.

I have been trying to sell a OMP set of SAEs on the BST for 1.1k w/ notakers. The95W on ebay trends at best @ 3K. Still bellow the 4.5k.

1995W PF 69 UC NGC or DC PCGS or NGC on ebay are going to close to 5K now.

And a good thing, too. Otherwise people would be wasting money on XF turban fives.

  • pf70collector,

    But do they have spots?

Keep in mind these coins are NOTslabbed. If they are paying 5k for raw 95W SAEs then someone pm me an offer.

  • I went to the dealer I trusted and he said the 95W would not even be gradable. He advised to take the best offer, but he had too much integrity to buy at a low price and try to resell to someone else.

So I went back to the guy who offerd $4500 and he had a change of heart also. He would only buy it if I had it graded and it came out 67 or better.

Being that the dealer I trust told me it wouldn't be worth sending out, I decided against slabbing and proceeded to a third dealer. He recognized the spot on the front and found a new one on the reverse (right by the W of all places).

Offered $3100 and I took it. I felt it was fair considering the condition and the fact that we both went into the deal with eyes wide open.

Anyway, I'm glad I unloaded and I am going to look only ahead.

Thanks for all your feedback and I'll let you know what I decide to start collecting next.

One thing is for sure...it won't be modern silver!
