    Nice!

I'm sure its not easy to locate similarly toned Roosies. I'm trying to do the same with Morgans and its not easy, but keeps me occupied to say the least.

    Good luck with your collection!!

Very pretty. I'm not familiar with these too much, so I'd like to know your opinion on whether the blue ones might be AT?

    Trolling,

Its not uncommon to find blue toned roosevelts - especially in Whitamn albums. Certain positions in those albums (and others) seem to be more condusive than others and as a consequence, blue colors for those date/mint mark coins are common. A good example is the 47S which sits in the upper right hand corner of the 1st page in the album. Interestingly enough, there are certain date/mint mark coins where blue toning is uncommon - and many of the D mint coins tend to fall into this category.

The 1957 and 1958 mint sets also seem to produce quite a few blue toned coins however, once again, its the P mints that tone blue and the D mints that do not. Quite strange.

One is also much more likely to find blue dimes in NGC holders than PCGS holders. In fact, there are two primary ranges of NGC serial numbers where its quite common to find blue toned dimes. This infers that many of these blue dimes were submitted in two groups. Either someone had quite the cache of blue dimes or someone was equally adept at making them! SNs starting with 503 and 506 are common as well as a number in the 700-703 range. These are the old fat holder style slabs. One much more infrequently sees blue dimes in newer holders but they do surface. The coins pictures here are almost all in old NGC fat-boy holders in the SNs noted above.

Having said that, I and other collectors, have been quite successful at crossing nice blue NGC MS67 dimes to PCGS MS67 dimes. I've probably crossed several dozen over the last 5 years that were blue (and many others that were not). Some have subsequently upgraded to NGC MS68's and even PCGS MS68's. And yes, there are blue PCGS MS68's.

Perhaps what brings up the AT vs NT question immediately, is most people are not use to seeing so many blue coins at once. I've spent the better part of the last 5 years looking for these coins so whan I post a group, many people see so many blue toned coins that they wonder if someone is making them! And the honest answer is that I don't know but it was certainly possible given how they were submitted years ago.

    Here's some more.....

Those blue/green target toned Roosevelts look like the end coins of some OBW rolls I have from the early 1050's. I thought it was the silver reacting to the green paper of the rolls.

    Craig,

    All beauties!!!

What peaked your interest in collecting "blue" Roosies? Is there a story behind it?

Here's one of only a few blue ones I own:

Colorfulcoins, thanks for your detailed response. I don't believe I've ever seen such brilliantly-hued blue coins in person before. So they're a bit of a surprise to me, although they don't really look AT. Thanks for the info. Your coins are truly beautiful!!

Xpipe, did you recently buy that coin you've pictured? I made that coin and gave it to greattoning to sell on ebay. I have another 54P in MS67* - here it is:

And I also just found out today that this coin has been holdered PCGS MS66. I really needed a 63D so I'm very happy!

Wow Craig, you've got some really nice ones there. I've got a few i'm selling on Ebay right now, but not anywhere near as nice as yours. You said Whitman holders yield the best results in toning? I'll have to get some of mine back in there. I've got some wheat lincolns I wanna set in a folder, see how the turn out some day.image Great stuff. BTW, I don't see too many toned roosies in 68-70, why is that? I mean, I know overall those grades are hard but it seems the blast white ones are the only ones I see in those grades.

Wow. Those are some beauties. I often wonder what my set of Roosies would look like now... I sold them and put some lawn-mowing funds with it to buy a set of Frankies back in 1975.... an award-winning set of 1/2's, it turned out. image; ... sure wonder how those Roosies would look today after seeing y'alls. Thanks.

Can anyone say for sure why some coins in this series do not appear to tone as blue as others (D vs P mint for example)?
P.S. Hey Tassa- I think I got a nice toned 55D. When I can get to it I'll take some pics and sent them your way.

I'v got a 1961 proof in a NGC holder with a starting serial number of 311. It's about 1/3 blue on the obverse and about 3/4 on the reverse. Neat coin. Would post a pic, but don't know how. Andy
