Coin shop killer pleads guilty

Daniel Campbell pleaded guilty this morning to killing Jordan Allgood during a robbery at the Allgood Coin Shop in November 2003.

Allgood's mother, wife and three children sat in the courtroom within two feet of Campbell when he pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder charge. Campbell will be sentenced on Aug. 31.
“The Allgood family is very supportive of the plea agreement and very grateful for the legal council that has represented them in this case,” said family spokesperson, Kent Perkins.

He pleaded guilty in order to avoid the death penalty if convicted.

The crime actually took place in Utah, not Michigan.

It was a brutal and ugly killing with the dealer shot and struggling to call police when he died

What a waste - shoot him and let HIM wonder if/when he's going to die. image

That's too bad he plead. Doesn't Utah still have a shooting squad for the death penalty?

I believe they changed it. Not a firing squad but some other
    method is used now.

    More details:

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - A man charged in the 2003 slaying of a coin dealer who was found dead in his St. George store pleaded guilty Friday to first-degree felony murder.

Daniel Robert Campbell, 52, was initially charged with murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping, all first-degree felonies. He was also charged with a second-degree felony charge of possession of a deadly weapon. All but the murder charges were dropped in exchange for his plea.

Jordan Allgood was killed Nov. 25, 2003, during a robbery at his store, Allgood Coin. The death attracted widespread attention in coin collectors' circles.

The American Numismatic Association and the Utah Retail Coin Dealers Association - both organizations to which Allgood belonged - pledged $5,000 each for information leading to a conviction.

It wasn't until after the case aired on ''America's Most Wanted'' that the St. George Police Department received a tip that led to Campbell's arrest last January.

Campbell faces five years to life in prison when is sentenced Aug. 31.

Also on Friday, the St. George Police Department announced it had obtained an arrest warrant for a second man suspected in the killing. The warrant was expected to be served Friday on Todd Wayne Mulder, 40, who is in jail in Las Vegas on separate charges.

The arrest warrant for Mulder is on charges of first-degree felony murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping. Extradition proceedings will begin to bring Mulder to trial in St. George, the police department said in a statement.

They could sentence him to as little as five years in prison on first degree murder? At this rate, by 2050 we'll be giving murderers medals.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

it's too bad they didn't catch this guy with a small baggie of marijuana, then he'd go away for a long long long time.

A coin dealer here on the Oregon coast had his throat slit and survived and another in the store, as I remember died, and the perp only got life in prison. I pity anyone who tries to rob this dealer now-------------------------BigE
