eBay spoof requests,,, do you report???

Probably just like a lot of you, I have been recieving an increase in the amount of fraudulent requests for my eBay settings and passwords. I have recieved around twenty in the last week alone, and was curious if other members took the time to report these thieves to eBay. I have, within the last week, reported all of these attempts to the spoof reporting email address at eBay. Question is, am I just wasting my time and bitstream, or has anyone actually heard of some good coming from these reports? How hard can it be to trace the origin of these mailings? Has anyone heard of an eBay member actually giving their personal info to these crooks? Also was wondering if anyone has "fun" with a response, or is this dangerous just to create a link between sender and reciever? Just curious!!!

Yes, I do report them in the hope that something may be done. Don't play games with the scammers, they may well be setting you up. Remember who you are dealing with. Their goal is to scam you any way they can.

Yes I forward them on to eBay or PayPal as the case may be.

I also forward to Ebay/PayPal, I think all they do is autogenerate an email back to you............

I report every single one. I also get some for PayPal info that I report.

For those who can never quite tell if the message is real or not keep this in mind, a statement from their T&S dept recently regarding "My Messages" which can be found in "My eBay":

From a safety perspective, the bottom line is this – If the email affects your eBay account, it's in My Messages. If you get an email that looks like it's from eBay about a problem with your account or requests personal information and it's not in My Messages, it's a fake email.

I forward them every time. If nothing else, it shows ebay the sheer size of the problem.

I hit the reply button and proceed to leave various obscene and disgusting messages. This is otherwise totally out of character for me but you know how it is when a net connected keyboard is in front of you.

By the way, the 2 quotes ( above ) are really weak compared to the beauties I send off.

I always forward them to Spoof at ebay. But I never reply to them, that would just make them send you more. Most are generated emails just to get you to log in there site so they can put trojans and worms in your computer and get all your info.

I report them, but Im sure nothing is ever done,, after all why would it be private what they do, its me that they are trying to scam, and why cant ebay tell us what they do? Privacy for the scammer ,thats a crock !!

By the way, replying to these lets them know that they have found an active addy, and the real user , from your header,, on the return mail.

Most of them get blocked by my spam filters -- which I've trained to recognize spoofs as well. The ones that do make it through get reported.

I report 'em in waves. Depends on how mad I get. They keep coming, though.
