Why are the bids this high for this Washington quarter?

linky

I agree that this is a pretty coin but isn't it circulated? Or am I wrong?

The seller never said it is uncirculated but are some people assuming that it is uncirculated??image

Or maybe I am mistaking what looks like wear on the eagle's breast and George's curls.

What's younz opinions?

I bought a 1950 Washington Quarter from this seller. Looked better in-hand than the image, and I think his grade assessment was right on the money.

Grade assessment?? Or are you being sarcastic and I missed it?

It looks AU55ish to me. Wear on the eagle's breast and legs, and on George's hair. Just my humble opinion.

The seller is a board member here and I have purchased coins from him in the past. He's one of the best and his grading was spot on! I've never been disappointed and recommend him to anyone, period! I like the colors on this coin and agree that it's not the highest Washington that will ever be graded but it will grade in my humble opinion.

There is no grading on this one. It's a grade it yourself deal.
  • Looks just like some coins I threw into a tupperware container with some wet matches.

  • Yes Craton, I agree with you. I think the quarter in question is AT and an easy AT to boot. But worse than that, I think the colors are ugly, just my own taste. I sure would not paint my wall such ugly and depressing colors. I dont want coins that look like that either. JMHO.

Your 100% correct with this listing. He's leaving it up to the buyer to decide the grade and condition for this coin. He's not trying to BS anyone like most do. All I'm saying is that when he does state a grade on a coin it's been better than most.

You really believe that? Don't think so. Only the seller knows for sure.

Let me make it clear that I am not questioning this seller's ethics.

I am just wondering if the bidders are assuming this coin is uncirculated
when the seller never states that it is.

You know, sometimes you have preconceived notions about things without reading or looking at an item carefully.

Not exactly but it has very similar colors. And I'M NOT saying that the coin is AT. I don't want some guy to freak out and go talk to a lawyer.

    Straight from the auction...

    Description

    Item Specifics - US Coins
Certification: Uncertified Method of Manufacture: Business Strike
    Mint: Philadelphia Condition: Uncirculated
    Material: Silver

Coin is AU...colors are iffy at best and easily reproduced. I don't know the seller and either way this is just my opinion based on my experience which is worth about 2 cents.

It does appear to be rubbed or at least the color has come off those highpoints..or was never there to begin with. All possible warning signs. But to be sure, you have to see it in person. The obv fields do have a grainy or chattery look to them. But again, you have to see it.

No question in my mind that coin is circulated.
