What kind of novelty item could the mint produce that might cause people to become fascinated by coi

I was thinking that if the mint produced coins with silver plugs, as was done with some early coins, more people might become interested in coins.

There are probably lots of interesting things that the mint could do in order to increase the public's appreciation of coins. Can you think of any?

Restrikes of classic past coin designs, but only for one year on the anniversary of when the coin was first minted. Even if this is against mint policy but they did it for the SAE.

I think they are already doing pretty much just that. Possibly the error coins are released on purpose also and then publisized by the mint as well. Now the nickel and we are all waiting for the Lincoln Cent 100th anniversary possible coins.

I think that the state quarter idea above has some promise. We should do it.

I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."
  • How about a well struck coin...any coin, and proofs without marks, finger prints and pubic hairs....That would be a novelty!image

Reissue Morgan and Peace Dollars at 100% over bullion, using old dies from pre-1921 (including proofs). Have a 2000 coin limited issue. Watch market interest explode. Then do same with SLQ's, and Walkers, at 200%--image

Putting 3 coins and a medal in a box and selling it for $20 seems to be working

how about if they roll ordinary circulation-strike coins in special printed paper wrappers and sell them for 4 or 5 times face value? (before shipping and "handling" fees)

I'll bet folks would buy it. image

They should not be producing novelty items.

How about coins with small holes in them at the top so that women can string them up on a bracelet and men can pin them to their hats and vests! image

The three best things they could probably do for the market are probably:

1.,= Continue to improve quality of all products not only numismatically but also artistically.
2.,= Produce and sell folders and albums for all circulating coins.
3.,= Provide collectors with cent and dime rolls at as low a price as practical.

They could do a couple of things to improve their business too, such as to continue to improve
their customer service and fix their software problems on their website.

These are good suggestions. Also, some forethought might be good too. Think of those L&C Pouches - not good for coins and anyone with a remote knowledge of the materials involved should have known from the start. Then there is the light-up Edison box that looks like it came from the Danbury Mint.

your all wrong....need to go with the times......my first choice would be the Supermodels on the new $1 coins to include....Twiggy, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Elle MacPherson, Claudia Schiffer, Carol Alt, Kathy Ireland, Christie Brinkley, Gisele Bundchen, Cindy Crawford
.......after the blowout with the new ladies on the $1 I would turn to our cent and roll out the famous NASCAR drivers....like Jimmie Johnson, Greg Biffle, Elliott Sadler .....after this huge hit....I would return the 10c to the greatest bands of all times....Beatles, Rolling Stones, U2, Grateful Dead, Velvet Underground etc........if you dont think that its time for some real serious changes then you will never get some great new designs on coins.......how bout using some great artists......think about a Peter Max heart coin! .... how about a Picasso Musketeer or a James Rizzi city painting....there are great ideas out there......sorry to say that no one seems to have the balls to try to put them on a coin.......

Wow, this is an easy question !!! It would be a real NOVELTY if they produced coins with beautiful and intricate designs, with a little bit of classical artistry. A renaissance in coin design would get people interested in coins.

I am a big fan of the state quarter program, but a lot of the designs and/or executions are REALLY CRUMMY !!!!!! Just like the rest of our tired, boring circulating coinage. Oh well. Back to my REAL coins ...

reissue pre 1915 coin designs every 6 months or so place them in circulation and then do another

same design just change the dates and of the current modern metal composition
