Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Time to sell my AU-58 bust half and buy this one. After all, mine's only a 58, and this one is "AU58++". Besides, what does NGC know compared to this guy? image

Does it make AU58+ when you can see the date clearly?

I mentioned to the seller that the coin was not AU, he said, "That is you opinion and thats why I started the bid at AU-50, if you don't like my grade as the ad states DO NOT BID!.....Period"

Dang, I was going to bid too.....

Hmm, I wonder how much the problem fee is? If I knew I might think about bidding! image

I think that 2X2 needs more staples in it.

After all, I only counted seven......image

I emailed him a question about the coin and he actually answered it in the auction!

Q: Just wanted to make sure the coin in the picture is the coin being auctioned. The coin pictured looks to be in the F/VF range. Thanks!

A: YES, This is the correct picture of a Error Free Early Halve Dollar, other than minumum wear, scrath free coin....this is one of the better Early Halves that I have seen....So my answer is YES it is an AU COIN, Starting bid is lower than AU-50....That why I leave room for bidders to bid up closer to actual fair market value, which is a good price compared to any other than higher end of all Early Halves at Fair Market Value even at XF is a very good buy. That is why I state Bid on your opinion from photos and not my grade which I believe to be AU-55++ to AU 58 priced lower than Fair Matrket Value in XF condition....This is a rare find for a High End Coin 174 years old....If you don't approve of my grade...... I try and leave room to bid as I have done here...If you don't agree..Just Buy Coin From Someone Else....If you don't Agree... No Problem! Most VF Early Halves are over $100.00 dollars and more so, I'll just keep the coin if anyone can find a better one than I have, you should buy it there...But Bid off your opinion only, or DON'T BID......Buy it elsewhere!

    I responded to his answer:

That is very kind of you to start the bid at less than AU money ... the coin is not an AU!

If you are new to the hobby and are not proficient with proper grading, I would recommend buying the "Official A.N.A. Grading Standards for United States Coins." Great grading book.

If you are not new to the hobby and believe you are a capable grader, you should be ashamed of yourself for trying to take advantage of new or uninformed collectors.

Upon further inspection, the coin looks to grade a Fine (F12).

I don't think the coin has a prayer at reaching EF. Can't tell if it was whizzed from the pic.

  • He doesn't have one single bid on ANY of the items he has up on eBay. Shouldn't that be a clue to him that he is clueless? All that gobble-de-gook that he has typed into the ad belongs on his About Me page, not the ad. It probably scares more than one person off. (Everyone?)
