For your average American? Stick with the stocks.

You can still make bad stock choices, but there are enough safeguards out there to prevent you from being a victim of shady sellers.

It takes specialized knowledge to "do coins".

No NO, I did not mean "is investing in coins a good idea" - I meant is PCGS putting this on their home page a problem. A conflict...some think this signals bad things a coming...

Oh.....well......um......I haven't actually read the article. image

Ok. I feel prepared to offer an opinion now.

I don't see a problem. PCGS website is intended for people interested in coins, and this would qualify. Your "average investor" wouldn't stumble on it on the PCGS site. It's a balanced article....lays out the risks....has the proper cautions.

    I don't see a problem.

It is not only on the PCGS site - they are linking to an MSN news story that was discussed here yesterday - many think articles like this signal "the end" of the boom etc.. I wonder for whose benefit it was posted.....

I would agree with MrHypothetical...er...MrEureka. Articles about investment opportunities aren't "the sign". Mad investing by people based on articles would be the sign. image

I guess you are a contrarian? image

Yes. More buying...of coins...PCGS coins....as an investment. I dunno. I thought they graded coins, not gave investment advice directly or otherwise? It seems like an endorsement perhaps.

I guess you are a contrarian?

Of course. The more bullish articles I see, the more I want to sell.

"Conflict? Bad Idea for PCGS? "

    No, just more hype.

PCGS should stay away from giving investment advice and stick with grading and numismatics in general.

  • I agree with Perry. I like PCGS when it sticks to "what it knows best". After all, very few of the prices they list for coins are realistic in the marketplace.

Why do you think it's an endorsement?

And they do grade coins. Along with provide information about coins. This is an article which provides information.

I did not have a problem with the article. PCGS grades coins only. However, if they were in the retail business that would be another matter......

If they were in the retail business they would still be supplying information.

But of course that information would be followed up with a phone call and a recommendation.

    See your point but...........
