Newbie question on Peace Dollar Vams

I went thru a box of peace dollars I own today and noticed a coin I bought last year. A common 1922 Peace Dollar. Looks like a 63-64, nice and white. I bought it because it had a cool die crack running from the D in God to the T in Trust. Forgot I even bought it for 20 bucks. I cant seem to find any info on this type of Vam variety. Dont know what its worth, or if PCGS would recognize this coin as a Vam type if I sent it in for grading.
Any thoughts? Tried scanning the coin but cant get the image size under 50k clear enough.image

image Check out Ashmore's updates. Click on the images links. PCGS doesn't do very many VAMs yet, maybe soon. Try Photobucket or any free photo hosting sites, then you don't have to worry about size.

Peaceman or some other Peace Vams gurus may give you better information then I can. IMHO, I don`t think it is a Vam. I`ve read before on these forums that for the 1922`s and 1923`s are fairly common by all mints to have something like this going on. Either way, it looks like a winner to me and worth keeping.image
  • Welcome to the boards. The die crack in question appears to be just that, a common die crack. While every Peace & Morgan dollar has a VAM number, this die crack will not have any significance.

PCGS does not offer VAM identification services. If you want the VAM number identified, ANACS is the place to send it. But I would not suggest submitting this coin for grading or VAM identification as it is most likely just a common variety. The cost of submission, grading, and shipping will far exceed the coins value unless it's MS65 or greater. Sorry.
  • Thanks for everyones help and input. I will just hang on to it for now and poke around a bit more. Thanks again!image
