Lamination Error on 1921 Morgan - and a dot on reverse

I've mentioned before that my wife hates coin collecting. Last Sunday (Father's Day), we went for a picnic. During the drive, she pulls into a flea market, hands me $200, tells me happy belated birthday and happy father's day. She pointed to a guy that we both know has coins and told me she'd meet me over there later. I'm so confused and lucky.

One of the Morgans I picked up has some delamination on the reverse. The area over the T is raised several millimeters. If you hold the coin at an angle, you can see more of the T underneath. I think I could peel the layer away and still see a complete T. It also has a dot to the right of the eagle's left wing, and part of the ribbon may have been filled with grease. Don't know the VAM. Just sharing some photos.

If it's flaking or peeling away it's a lamination, otherwise that's one fine die break you've found. Either way, a very nice collectable
    coin.

And the wife doesn't sound too bad either.
  • Dot next to wing is consistent with VAM 14. Photo at ashmore.com matches your photo of the dot. You may want to verify by matching the official description below. Lamination errors are pretty neat, but don't usually bring much of a premium when selling.

    14(revised) IV 9 · D2a (Tripled Stars, Missing o in God) (189) I-3 R-5
Obverse IV 9– Left stars and E–PL tripled towards rim with date digits and right stars very slightly doubled towards rim. Slightly doubled profile from hair down to neck.
Reverse D2a– Some specimens show die fill striking error with o in God almost missing and second T in STATES weak. Tiny dot at right edge of middle of eagle’s left wing.

  • Thanks! The photo of the dot on the ashmore site looks like an exact match. My coin is clashed. Maybe it's a 14B. I don't see a clashed S, but it's been a long day. Some of the other diagnostics don't quite match, but the dot is good enough for me. The right and left stars show tripling. The profile is slightly tripled. PL and RIB are tripled at the base.

    Thanks again.
