Is it true that you can't beat 9colors in an ebay auction?

I always heard he begins with a tiny opening bid, but come crunch time, all hell breaks loose and you can't beat him without waaaay overpaying? Does this match up with any other's experience?

If so, he's bidding on a coin he is certainly going to have to pay for.

  • He actually wins a very low percentage of the items he bids on....

The guy has a great eye! A lot of those coins are the same ones on my watchlist.

I draw a different conclusion from this guy bidding on only one seller's auctions and winning very few. Three guesses and two don't count for what I think.

Which coin are you referring to?

The only way you can find out is to bid $10,000 on an 82 CC Morgan image

I've always thought jokutpa was really hard to beat... but that's me.

Is it true he only bids on coins from one seller? Very suspicious. Feedback kept private? Very suspicious. A feedback score of only 20? Very suspicious. It is possbile for this to be honest, but it does look suspicious.

Good people of the forum I would like you to take a look at this past thread concerning 9 colors. I know that opinions are hard to change but this well respected member of the forum has.

One of those is me. This bidder is the real deal.

I'll try this once more. When I first noticed, I had my doubts, and instead of wondering, asked Dick. His explanation made sense, and proved out over time. Examine it carefully, and you will note that he bids early at a low price, in my opinion to mark for possible buying at the end. Positive first impression kind of thing, I do this too. Then, if he bids at the end at all, it is in the last few seconds to win, never a losing raise-the-final-price kind of bid. It's quite clear.

It's good to be wary, but too many people constantly assume the worst in every instance.
That may be fine for oneself, but, it shouldn't be used to put a shadow on others....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

You hit the nail right on the head!! Its tough to get beaten up all the time with the same accusations over and over again. The only thing that we coin dealers have is our reputations and to have them tarnished unjustly is a travesty. Like I always said if you are in an insane asylum, how do you convince someone that you don't deserve to be there?

If he bid in the last few seconds, rather than just a few days before to get it on his bidding list, you've done something.

This is a general question with no finger pointing intended.

How do parties on eBay get "private" feedback ratings?
Doesn't this defeat the whole purpose of feedback?
As a seller don't you want to know something about the parties bidding on your auctions?

This 9colors must have quite an ecclectic collection!

Bids on coins of all grades, from all countries, also will bid on medals and such... pretty much bids on anything, but only ONLY from one seller

Must be one heck of a seller!

The only question that I can answer is that after having dealt with my customer for some time I hold him in the highest regard and would do nothing to discourage him from bidding in my auctions. Why people buy what they want is really not my business but I do feel fortunate that he has put his trust in me and has decided that he would rather not buy anywhere else.

I have similar buying habits from some sellers. Doesn't mean he's a shill. (Not implying that you thought he was) For instance, I'd bid on pretty much anything that braddick is selling (Not that I do).

My take on private feedback is that although it sometimes looks suspicious ebay affords the right for individuals to do it much like almost every other auction venue
