What exactly is PCGS's grading guarantee? Would appreciate specifics.

I've looked through the site and couldn't find it. If anyone could supply a link or information I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

edit to add:

Under the guarantee what are you compensated for? Slabbing fees? Value of coin? Do you get a replacement?

I apologize in advance if my questions seem simplistic, but I can't seem to get a handle on what exactly someone gets under the "guarantee". Thanks!

That is really not fair. PCGS, in my experience has been way more than fair with the guarantee and in fact are held in high esteem IMO and I have sent numerous coins in for the guarantee. Most were Lincolns that turned of that PCGS really missed.

Ditto Clackmas. PCGS has made good on several Commems and Lincolns that have turned and that showed moisture spots after grading. They have been prompt with the check and fair with the amount.

I notice it says excessive cleaning is a reason to BB a coin so by inference light cleaning would seem to be permissible!!

I have an 1860-O dime that they graded and it has been cleaned. Hairlines are extremely obvious. I submitted it and they said the coin had not been cleaned. I've seen much lesser cleaned coins get bagged. Again, it's whatever they say it is. Things change when real money is involved.

Market value of the coin. If you bought smart, you make a profit. If you bought stupid, you lose money.

To add a recent example to this...

I bought a 1968-S PR69DCAM Kennedy Half for ~$195
Coin turned, in the holder, to get "environmental damage" on the reverse.....3 brown spots (not toning) from improper rinsing most likely from whoever submitted it
I subitted for Grade Guarantee....waited 2 months. Got call.
Offer for $300 + return of $25 Grade guarantee fee + $13.40 Shipping (x2...each way)

So, they made a fair offer, I made money, coin is no longer slabbed (they sent it back to me in a bodybag) and I bought a replacement.

All is happy
