Getting a handle on my new lighting aka post your pretty morgans
Well, duh, finally realized there is a big light in the sky, and even with clouds today, finally captured the real appearance of this, after failing with many different indoor setups

Top one is cloudy, bottom is sunny with reflected light off white posterboard

<< <i>wow that is gorgeous, how is the luster?? >>
Yeah, Craig, I do note that without the reveal bulbs proximity, the wet, glistening luster does not come through. I hope when I get to try it in bright sunlight conditions that will change, but that image is as taken, just brightness lowered a couple clicks because of plastic glare.

NGC MS64 and MS66*, respectively
Just love your green Morgan, Jeremy. I'll never get indoor lighting down like you do, but even with it raining out now, this shot with cloudy setting on white balance still shows the actual appearance of this one, sans luster. I am excited about imaging what my eyes see, finally, and the answer was just sitting there, 92 million miles away all along.

It's not that far away - but whose counting?
<< <i>No light made by man (or self-interested corporation) can match the perfect lighting of the Sun. Coins look best when photographed in ordinary sunlight. Your sunlit images look superb. Note though, on really sunny days, I have found that it is difficult to capture the color on monster toned coins. Actually, a slightly hazy day works best for me. matteproof >>
Therefore, summers in LA should make all coins look like MS68 or better

No doubt LanLord. But that kind of lighting looks fantastic on those beautiful Calfornia girls you got out there.

Pretty sure it's 92-93 million away, and thanks for the positive comments. Having the light coming in evenly from all sides means no shadows, which had been my bane.

<< <i>Hey LeeG. Your Morgan is beautiful. Nice color and super photography too. ms65? >>
Thanks for the compliment! Your right on the money, it's a 65. I can't take credit for the photo, it's the sellers. Heres my photo of the coin:

<< <i>Stunning crescent, Eric, your images have got me looking out for a nice one. >>
Thanks. It's no secret that is what I like, and keep a close eye out for them.
I guess I've got one crescent, of sorts. Used Mike's suggestion of reflected sunlight, cut a lens-sized hole in a piece of white posterboard. I appreciate all the suggestions, I can see why dawn/dusk light would be better than bright sunlight, and indeed a cloudy day did make for better lighting.

A little dmpl action:
A different look for the icon
And a last, different look at the one that started the thread off
Thanks for contributing, everyone!
