Question about sniping on Ebay

Believe it or not, I am not sure if there is something called sniping software for ebay. I think I heard of it, but I don't know where to get it. The reason I am asking is because there was a book I wanted and I was the higher bidder for an entire week (it is a $75 book and I almost got it for $30 so we're not talking the end of the world here). Anyway, I was the high bidder until 5 seconds left while I was watching, and then the lot closed and another person won it for $1 more than my bid. Was this done through special software, or did the other guy just enter the bid in the last 5 seconds? How can I prevent this from happening, or how do I join the sniping scene?

Prevent it from happening by sniping yourself, whether it be with software or not (manual). I don't believe that there is any way to tell if someone who sniped you used software or not. Personally, I like to do it myself, and have not used any software, but I believe that there are many here who do use them - you can probably do a search on here and find some of the different programs in use.
