Good news for those of you who want an SLR camera at an affordable price

Nikon has announced the new D50 SLR which should be available any day now at photo retailers. This camera is 6.1 megapixels just like the D70. The advantages of this new camera is that it is lighter, is easier to learn than the D70, and the street price will be around $600 at the discount retailers. It uses the standard Nikon lens mount, so all the Sigma macro lenses will work with it. I think this will be another great camera to photograph coins.

I saw my first Nikon TV commercial the other day. They were offering a free printer with the purchase of a D70. Didn't get all the details though. image

There you go Lucy. Buy the body and then a good macro lens and you'll be in business!

I guess "affordable" means different things to different people. Let me know when it's down around fifty bucks.

Glad prices on bodies are coming down some. Problem is that lens' can be expensive.

Will the regular Nikkor Lens' work for the Digital and Film SLRs both? Or are they different?

All of the standard Nikon mount lens should work, but varying functionality with vatious features. All my lens are Normal Nikon AF lens (Sigma brand) and they work fine. You do get some extra magnification with digiatal cameras because most of the CCD's are smaller than 35mm film. On the D70 a 105m lens works like a 150 on a Film camera.

Yes, and Sigma recently increased their prices by about 10%. The Sigma 50mm can still be had for under $250, so you're looking at about $850 for the setup.

Don't remind me how much a lot of us overpaid for digital cameras about 5-6 years ago. image

I'm VERY impressed by how extensive the magazine review is! Great photos and detail on the features.

Oh yes, and the camera looks like an excellent one!
    When in doubt, don't.
