Tracking Down Board Members

Stone193 made a comment that had me thinking. For those that have been on a long time are there members that you have not heard from in awhile that you wish would come back? I always liked to hear from 67Topps, and he has not been on in a while. Just curious on who some of you favorite posters are that are no longer here?

I heard he's in jail. Most of the maximum security prisons won't let the inmates post on message boards.

Many of the old posters either have been banned or left the boards for different reasons. Some of the better posters who were banned or we don't see as often were: Davililo, Zardoz, Vargha, BigKidatHeart, VirtualLiz, Alohaet, Chris Renaud, andiehaley and.... that all that comes to mind right now.

I miss Vargha and Zardoz as well.

But for my money, there never any posts that were anywhere close to being as entertaining as those by PSAtan/Scumbi.

I liked Scumbi and kallmalonesay aka Jason (where'd he go anyway?)

I took a leave of absence for a while...nobody seemed to mind.

As for BKAH, well his posts were comical.

I like BKAH - you have to "get" his brand of humor spiced with irony/sarcasm - he's a very intelligent guy. I spoke with him a while back and he's very busy with work and a fantastic family with a new home.

As I said, Aknot was a good guy and very helpful - my Stone193 was designed by him.

There was a really nice guy - aka Bearsnum who I spoke with and was hoping to see him visit SA from El Paso - he collected 55Ts.

Some of the guys do post on the registry, sports or even the open forum.

On CoolHand - I haven't spoke with him in a long while - there isn't a more intelligent guy around and I miss his posts very much. If we are going to have a major war - there isn't a better guy to have in the middle of the debate! He posts over at Beckett - he's more on the modern side anyway.

He was on television with Kenny Goldin was it? Hawking cards on late night tv. I wasn't a fan of the show or a customer . But the guy had alot of knowlege.

I think you may be correct - remember he bought this hoard of "Stuff" from one source on ebay and it was a nice sum of money. He just wanted to earn enough money to pay for his own cards and have some fun.
He was also not affraid to defend his position. I remember be got in the debate of the century when he was here on "closing auctions early" I believe.

At one point Ranch was in on the long running tussle from the Net54 board. He seemed to have some inside info and some thought he actually was one of those guys.

Remember, the big fight about the trimmed cards, one being an Old Judge I think. And also the cardboard reconstruction guy.

I have been here for a while and its always sad when a good member gets the boot or simply goes away.

"waittilltheytrytosell" was probably my favorite poster, incredible knowledge and lots of inside info..nobody ever found out who he actually was...he just dissaperared one day.

In the early days it was mostly Mcastly(sp) , acowa, aconte, gemmintman, carlos(carkim), dude, gemint, Buckwheat, I think all of them are here now but they just dont post much anymore.

I dont miss Davadillo that much, he did have some interesting things to say about dealers and grading and of course one of the most complete collections out there...but his ego was equally as large. Too much focus on plastic instead of the cards

Crazy was fantastic as well...one day he just left.

MW had probably the best fights...he really wasnt your run of mill troll...this guy could polarize the board worse than a republican/democrat bash.

A couple of good posters also died...that was quite sad.

P.S .......SKYliner had the one 1967 set at one time, he sold it all and devoted the money for his plane...his true hobby. Nice guy

I'm starting to come back after a long absence. My absence was mainly due to a lull in collecting, and not solely because of the board, although sometimes I think it's too passive here. Nobody gets worked up anymore, probably for fear of getting banned, but that's what made this place really unique. Out of the controversies came some really good insights and knowledge.

Can't argue with that unless you want me to.LOL

The one common denominator in this whole hobby thing relating to the boards is passion. And when gone, the place can get stale. I think that's what you may be alluding to. Whether the passion is channeled into enthusiasm for what one collects or an out and out neurotic propensity to argue, the place is more fun when it's jumpin' - heritage collectors light up the board once a year but a good ole fashion disagreement can be interesting - entertaining and enlightening - that we may all agree - I believe as long as it doesn't go too far...that is.

I miss the Indiana frat boy who was starting a new grading service in which pre-1957 cards were sliced and scrunched into post-1957 holders. He claimed he made $1.5 million by age 15. He was funny.

Seriously, I think some folks just gradually move on from here or from collecting in general. No formal goodbye, just a slow decline in interest.

Agreed. I don't think I've ever laughed at a message board posting as much as his.

You guys talk about BigKid like he's long gone - I believe he just posted something (the same thing as always) a few days ago.

CoolHandLuke had some great posts about modern issues - but, I never could understand the weird relationship he had with a poster called "The Roach"...

JEB's a really great guy- he wrote me a major inventory program for my collection, probably took him 80-90 hours, and never asked for a dime. He keeps tweeking it all the time too. He's still around, had a few emails with him today.
Same with Vargha, alive and well, and still missing that arm. Or "mra" as he calls it. We're having lunch tomorrow, guess I"ll be cutting his steak for him again.

CoolHandLuke is now known as Doppelganger on these boards. He posts very little now. He is mainly at the Beckett boards.

I always wonder what happened to Roach, DJB77, GoHalos, RobE, and the teacher that gave baseball card commons to his students (I forgot his screen name)...

I remember when I first came on here, it was sort of an initiation or rites of passage. People were harsh and critical about my posts. I guess I am a veteran now as far as the baseball card forums go. I am very new in the Ancient Coins forum and I have been bashed so many times ....its all part of getting accepted I guess.
