2005 mint sets? will they be graded as SMS??

My question to you all has anyone heard........

In regards to the new satin finish on this year's uncirculated mint set. Has PCGS determined whether or not they will recognize the difference between regular business strikes and these new satin finishes? Perhaps something similar to the SMS coins in the 60's."

?? Thank you DN

I assume PCGS will give them a Satin designation in order to distinguish them from circulation strikes.

David Hall's answer was that they would need to see them to decide. I don't remember the words, but I bvelieve it was if they are different they would get a different designation.

My opinion is they will have to. They (noticeably) have a different finish to them.

Yeah, youre right, but I was thinking that since they are just regular ol' buisness strikes that they would not merit any special designation, but I could be wrong......

    But they aren't business strikes.

Doesn't SMS mean "Special Mint Set" not "Specimen"?

In any case, I agree, if the finish is different from the business strikes (which it is if reports are to be believed) they will have to give them adesignation of some type.

I agree, I don't know what to call them, but I doubt the mint will be circulating any of these jewels.

If the finish is similar to the 1994 and 1997 Nickels, then they definitely warrant a SMS or Specimen designation. IMHO, of course.

This could make finding circ GEMS very tough.

A new designation is no doubt soon to be announced. Not a circulating issue set of coins. Agreed that regular issue GEM's are indeed going to be tough in 05. Chris
