I can't see what turns people on to something so modern that's so expensive... if this were raw, it wouldn't even be $5.
for much more money in a few years. If you want it for a collection then just buy it
if possible with the realization you might lose much of your "investment". If you
just want to speculate then coins aren't a good area for it but this coin is the grand-
daddy of speculations today.
Most high grade moderns come from mint sets and this realization has not fully sunk
in with all collectors. Also many collectors are not aware that mint set coins may be
distinctly different this year meaning the primary source will not exist for these gems.
A few caveats: Most importantly I've yet to even see a MN quarter and there's every
chance these run very nice. Typically there won't even be MS-68's when they run nice
but the existence of this must say something. There could be many more of these made
and there is never a certainty that any coin will be in demand.
Under $1,000 seems cheap for the chance represented considering that there are millions
still collecting the states issues and coins like this will never be common.
If you were to pick it up for a grand and the POP held, it would be a steal.
However, there is always a chance that it is only the first of many.
Only time will tell what will happen with it.
from the Denver mint. IA-10 WI-18 TX-22 FLA-5 MI-22 and CA has 7 68's out of 118 no 69's yet.
The CA and MN quarters are from 2005 and the rest from 2004 so the speculation may be well worth it with the new 2005 sets.
