    EF40, net F12, significant environmental damage. This coin probably spent a long time buried in the ground.

    Detail is there but the surfaces need to be clean and not overly dark from corrosion. Looks like a solid XF on detail. Note that the
    1858-0 has a number of recut dates and other varieties where extra digits appear at the base of the rock or just into it. Those are sort of neat.

    Probably a silly question, but I have to ask. I have two 1858-O Liberty Seated halves that are cast counterfeits, replete with the characteristic 'porous' surfaces from the sand cast mold. Any time I see an 1858-O half, I always look to see if it is real. Are you sure that the coin is genuine? My counterfeits are easily identifiable, as they have turned a black color, and they sound more like a manhole cover than a silver half when dropped on a table top.

    This one could be improved if it was carried as a pocket piece, for a very long time.image
