Intresting observation about the BST forum

Has anyone else happen to notice that thier are a lot more "Reduced Price" "Lower priced" adds as well as threads with numerous TTT's with no sales in the BST forum lately? A sign, A coincidence, or nothing at all?

The nice stuff, priced reasonable does still seem to be selling curenlty

If you are like me, I use the same BST thread over and over. Some times it is empty, and other times it is filled. I simply edit it. And as soon as something is bought, I remove it from the list to keep it accurate. If you were to look at mine, it shows about 20 coins for sale with about 40 TTT's. I can however tell you that I have sold coins to at least 4 people in the last week from that thread.

I think it depends on the segment. I listed some MS65 Morgans slightly below TT and had three takers in within a few hours. I listed some proof Franklins that I couldn't give away on the BST that then sold for 30% higher at Heritage. EBay is still strong as is TT.

There does seem to be reduced action on the BST.

I used to sell stuff on the bst board but gave up because the people are too sharp here and I could never find a grape

I don't think that you can compare sales to forum members to those to the public at large. Low end coins don't sell here and many of the better coins have to be priced at a level that allows the buyer to turn it. I would doubt that many of the coins stay in a collection long.

Ebay and TT will see a similar slowdown in June...it is called summer, and it happens every year.

Also, a year or two ago, there were not as many listings on the BS&T board, so threads stayed on the front page longer and got browsed more. Now, there are more threads and things quickly get pushed back a page or two or three, and thus have less exposure.

Thats not true at all. Well, maybe if you define "low end"- but I have not sold a coin for more than $50 dollars until last night and I have sold maybe about 40 coins on the BST since I joined here in February. There is a market for "low end" coins. Maybe not as much as a 1893-S Morgan or anything, but there is definately a market.

My point was that if selling, lets say a nice AU Morgan with a common to semi-common date, you may get a bid of $18-25 on Ebay or see them at that price at shows. On the BST forum, you may not be able to sell it at $12-14.00. The people here tend to be more accomplished collectors or dealers who either have the coin being sold or wouldn't have one like it in their inventory. I'm not knocking the BST forum...just pointing out that if you're trying to form a correlation between it and the coin market in general you're comparing apples and oranges.
