When was the last time...

That you saw a Morgan, Bust, or anything in a dollar before 1921 - in circulation- I mean picked it up from the store or the bank, etc....

I got one today from the local grocery store dude- he had no idea what he gave to me- yes ethel it is an 1883 philly- purty nice coin- aboot a vg8. When I told him its worth about 9 dollars he shrugged his shoulders and said it won't fit in a cigarette machine and he has no use for it. I gave him my card and said to call me whenever he gets these big ugly coins- any of them- I'll be more than happy to take it off his hands..

Amazing at what some people do not know.

PK- anyone else?

That's unbelievable. I've never even gotten an Ike. You have to wonder who spent it.

I got an 1887 Indian Head penny in change from a store about a year ago. Seriously.

The closest I have ever received is a $20 bill dated 1929.

While working in retail (RadioShack) as a teenager I made some ridiculous scores. I wasn't a collector back then and only knew enough to know that certain items were not commonly seen in circulation.

1997: 2 Five Dollar Silver Certs and 3 Two Dollar Red Seals
1998: One 1922 Peace Dollar, One dateless Standing Liberty Quarter
2000: One 1894 Barber Half Dollar

On top of these finds I pulled loads of common silver from the till. There were many Silver Roosies, a few Merc Dimes, lots of pre-1965 Washington Quarters, etc. The stuff above was just the stand out material. I sold it all before I came to appreciate it, some to collectors, some on eBay. The only one I kept was the 1894 Barber Half. It's a solid original G4 and now resides in my Dansco 7070 as part of the world's ugliest type set. Those were the salad days buddy. Poor as a church mouse and happy as a lark. I'd love to have another shot at that.

Oh, by the way, the guy that spent the silver certificates knew exactly what they were and tipped me off. Random act of kindness?

Nope, can't say that I have. Amazing that a person was willing to throw away a good morgan like that.

Got two Peace Dollars at a 7-11 last year. When the clerk opened the register to give me change, I saw them and asked if I could have them.
He gladly handed them over in echange for two 1 dollar bills.

Got a 1915 (might be 1913) Buffalo nickel several months ago. The date is almost worn smoot, but cool none the less.
