That is one tough coin. Your coin has one of the best strikes I have ever seen on this date. Great coin, thanks for sharing.

Dang, that's nice. As for the grade, if they can find any rub at all, it's going to be called AU58, even if it does look like a 62. Nice strike, too.

Very nice jumpimage I once bought a BU roll because it had a 96-O in it. I was disappointed when I saw the strike, all mush. I would take your coin any day of the week.

Now, where are the pics of the 86 and the 94? Are they as nice as your 96?image

    Dave:

VERY nice coin. Looks like it has way more lustre and eye appeal than most MS61s and 62s.
    When in doubt, don't.

I think it is very nice. It appears to have the luster of an AU coin, though, so I think AU58 is about right.

Yes, as is the case with the 96-O, the 84-S, the 95-O, the 01-P ,and a few other key dates, the slider AU's are typically nicer overall looking coins than the much higher priced low grade uncs. The services are also not consistent in grading these, as I've seen more than a few 1884-S coins go from AU58 to MS60 or MS61 on resubmittals.

    Very nice 96-O!!

I picked up a raw one a few years back as an XF-45. ANACS liked it enough to drop it into a AU-58 slab, but it doesn't look as nice as that!!! image

    That is a nice 96-O.

This date is not impossible with full breast feathers.

I had a DMPL piece about 10 years ago that had full breast feathers. Leroy Van Allen had one at the same time also DMPL that had full feathers.

None the less this is a great AU+++++ example. I'll take ten of these before a railroaded strictly BU example.

    BigDave:

I think there are some dates that you have to see in hand and this is one of them. The pictures look outstanding and if the coin in hand looks like the picture, then 58 is a tad too conservative... even for my taste. WELL DONE. CONGRATS.

edited to add: for the date, I think the lustre is about as good as it gets.

The 79-CC was sold earlier today and it was slabbed by PCGS about 8-9 years ago. It is a quality coin and you picked up some quality coins too so you did well.
