    Looks more like a gouge to me. A mint worker could have scratched the die surface with a tool.

    New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    That's right - a gouge in the die surface would cause a raised area on the coins struck from it.

    New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
