There is not comparison. The D70 is the best camera. The S7000 is a good value but the D70 will kick its a$$. I own an S7000 and am very happy with it but the D70 has more pixels and better optics. Ofcourse it costs 2-3 times more.
Although it isn't fair to compare a $1000+ SLR to the S7000 at half the price, the Fuji can be a powerful tool in the right hands. The pics below were taken with an S7000 on one of the lower-megapixel settings (6mb is far too large to shoot coins IMO). The images are of coins in PCGS slabs, and were shot using two regular desk lamps (no special bulbs, no copy stands, etc.)
Ive still got a ways to go to catch K6AZ.. But this was taken with a Nikon Coolpix885 and natural sunlight and a steady hand If the link doesnt show up (crappy Geocities).. give it an hour or two and it will.
Holy crap Darkhorse...thats an amazing pic. Always enjoy K6AZ's pics but damn!!!! Nice job both of ya...both too good for your own good What are you shooting with Darkhorse? -Aaron
I shoot with Canon's version of the D70- the Digital Rebel SLR. **Sorry I couldn't help myself** Besides, I'm bummed I didn't get invited to shoot the toned Morgan dollar.

Thanks. I do my best. I'll post some Morgans one of these days once I get permission. For now i can only post my own stuff.
The funny...and quite frankly sad thing about it is I have a Coolpix 5700 and a Coolpix 8800 right in front of me. My father is the professional photographer and as he upgrades he gives me the ones he doesn't use. I am fortunate to have good quality camera's except I don't know how to use them correctly. Like anything else...I will continue to try. Until then I very much enjoy looking at the pictures that others post that have "the right stuff". Bravo to all of you that provide me with a look of coins that I may never see...I truely appreciate it. Nice..very nice -Aaron
<< <i>Very nice pics from K6AZ and Darkhorse. Would the two of you mind posting an image of your setup. I'd love to be able to produce images like that. >>
Bencher Copymate copy stand, Nikon D70 with Sigma 50mm and 105mm lenses:
I'd rather not post pics of my office but I have the same copy stand and lights as mgoodm3. I have a large box fan adjacent because those lights get damn hot. Also adjacent is my computer, a dual processor Macintosh G5 with a large display.
As you can see in my picture, I also have a pair of 300w quartz lights, but I don't use them for coins. I have a couple of gooseneck lamps that I use for coins using the 75w Sylvania Daylight halogens.

P.S. I own a D70 and, though I have a long ways to go, I am tickled with it thus far.
