Coin collecting software

I have a variety of gold and silver, modern and old. I would like to take it upon myself to try grading, as well as keeping up on current prices. After some research, I was considering buying Pro-Coin 2005 for my hobby.

Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Figure out exactly what it is you want software to do for you before buying it. Most programs have trial versions you can download. Take this opportunity to probe the software for limitations and things you don't like. See if it's compatible not only with your collection, but with your collecting style.

I had smoe collecting software but had so much stuff I never got the time to put it all in there.Shortly afterward my computer crashed and I never installed it on my new one.

I do fine with a simple database program where I set up everything as I need it.

Welcome!

MS Excel works just dandy for me. I wouldn't waste my money on OTS collector software. Tried a couple in the past, always ended up back with Excel.

Just my eversohumble opinion.

My experience is that these programs are very time intensive. I just use Microsoft Excel and format it with the info I want to capture. Very easy

Hi Rena,
If you register with heritage www.heritagecoin.com, they have an area called "my collection", with a free database. You can use theirs or use it as a template for your own spreadsheet.

Do any of you Excel folks have a way of getting updated values in automatically, or is it a strictly manual operation?

Do the Heritage templates for Excel do this?

I use Excel too but don't track values yet.

Liberty Street works for me. The have annual updates that update the values for all the coins in your collection.
Mostly mouseclicks, and I find it very simple. You can also do Darkside material if you want.
