MS64 by PCGS, NGC, and ANACS if they were....

all the same coin, year, mint mark, and grade, I have been told that PCGS would be worth more due to their reputation.
Do you feel this is an accurate statement?

What percent would PCGS be worth more than the others?

There are many series of coins where the plastic matters. A common date Morgan- probably no difference in value. A mint state Chain cent, well these usually trade on thier own merits irrespective of the plastic holder. A middle rarity-- say a common date bust half, it may make some difference. Most coins are worth what their eye appeal dictates to knowledgeable buyers. This is why at auction an MS64 can sell for more than the same date in MS65.

Way too general of a question. It not only depends on the grade, but the issue, date, etc.

NGC does dominate in a few of the issues, but "in general" PCGS will bring a better price when selling.

Of course, you often have to pay more to begin with so I'm not sure if PCGS is a better deal after all is said and done.

A very general answer to a very general question. Depends on the series, the dates, the coin, etc:

Morgans, if put up on eBay with no reserve...PCGS will sell for graysheet bid. NGC 80-90% of bid. ANACS 65-70%. End prices
doesn't mean it's right, just what the market perceives.

Generally good replies, but common Morgans are an area where the rep really steers prices hard. Look at ebay closings -- generic PCGS MS65's hover around $115-120, while generiv ANACS 65's orbit around $85-90.

Personally, I think ANACS is great, and the reputation thing sometimes lets you get a great coin in their holder for a relaxed price.

Bravo.... I've been saying this (and nobody listens) that if a coin is in a pcgs holder and sells for more, and you buy it in
a pcgs holder, and pay more..... what's the darn difference in going with another slab company paying less and selling for less?
It all works out a wash IMO. Of course I guess the idea is to buy in another flavor slab and get it in a pcgs slab to sell for more.
Then whine when they can't do it. LOLOL

Too many folks are obsessed with the plastic. I know, it's all about the numbers baby!!!!!

Do you feel this is an accurate statement? NO it all depends on what the coins look like in hand sight seen

What percent would PCGS be worth more than the others? it depends on the coin if the coin is all there and it is a total killer coin a coin that is within my specialities then worth the same in any holder

The market doesn't perceive anything. People comprise the market and those people have opinions and make decisions to buy or sell based on those opinions. It would seem that a large percentage of the folks in the market believe that a given coin will [usually but not always] bring more in a PCGS holder than it will in NGC or ANACS plastic. However its not fair to compare 3 different 1881-s ms65 Morgans in 3 different holders but we need to imagine the same coin in each of the 3 different slabs. As always the best players in the market put aside their holder bias and buy the coin not the plastic.
