A Coin Braddick Would Love, or, the most worn 1794 cent ever?

Here's a coin that I think Pat (Braddick) might truly LOVE! Nonetheless, he shall not get a hold of it because it's staying in MY collection!! ( image )

By the way, I bought this 1794 cent on December 23, 1966. The coin was graded "Fair" and I paid $12. I wonder if I should submit it to PCGS and pray for the coveted Poor 01 grade? The date is actually legible when the coin is in hand.

More seriously, I do wonder when this coin was removed from circulation. I have to bet it was after 1858, perhaps when people first started to hoard the "old" large cents. Or perhaps it circulated until 1862 when it was removed from circulation along with all other US coins.

As pictured that's an easy 2. It wouldn't surprise me if it gets a 3.

The "E" in CENT isn't altered?

    Pat:

The "E" in CENT is an "E;" it's not been altered to another vowel. And Glenn, your comment about how PCGS might misgrade the coin as a 3 is why I don't want to submit it. I fear that everytime PCGS grades a modern MS67 cent as MS66 that to even the cosmic books, PCGS must grade a classic MS02 large cent as MS03. image

    Here's a 1794 in a PO01 holder....also happens to be a head of 1793 variety.

Gad, you lucky dog: Your coin is a lot more worn than mine. I guess I'll need to throw mine back into the rock tumbler for another few hours....

    Mark,

I don't think your coin is really that bad. It is heavily worn, but you can easily see most all of the details and read all of the lettering.

Mark, that is one well loved coin!!!! I love the fact that it is evenly worn with no appearant pitting such as the one Craig has. Craig, please take no offense as it would be wonderful to have a coin of this magnitude in my collection!!!

I now know to never buy a coin from you. image

Seriously, it does appear to be worn smooth and I really couldn't figure out how so much detail could still be visible. I'll take your word that the coin is cruddy.
