Coin shop newps! Coin shop newps! Coin shop newps!

Hit a shop today that I hadn't been to before. Man, this place was a kick in the butt! Small, maybe 700 square feet or so, and piled floor to ceiling with every conceivable collectible junk! Grandfather clocks, antique games, pottery, glass, comic books, magazines, sports cards, watches, name it he had it. And, when I say piled, I mean piled! Nothing was organized and it was so jam packed it was like wading through the Antiques Road Show after a tornado hit. Very cool!

Anyway, I asked him if he had any sets, and after the usual dance of "what are you looking for" and the "man, I hate cherrypickers" dealer face, he pulled out a few that were buried in the back. Got done with those, he pulled out a few more. About the third time around I guess he figured out I was just going to keep asking, so he pulled out the whole wad. Had a couple hundred sets between proof and SMS.

Some of the goodies I picked off:

Picked off several nice toned proof Jeffersons. Here's one:

Nothing of "you suck" caliber, but still a damned fine hunting trip!

The Jefferson looks like a CAM, but a barely there CAM... maybe a 66 or 67 at NGC, depending on hairlines image

Very nice!!! All look like PCGS CAMs, with the exception if the Jeff.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

The Jeff will cam. I just got one back that is just like it. It was one of the few coins on my last couple submissions that actually did cam.

That's okay Russ... I really do not collect Proofs. But from the description, it sounds as if I have been there.

Ah, must just be an effect of the Lampshade pictures... I've noticed that... they're GREAT for taking really awesome pictures of highly contrasted coins... but on lesser coins, has a tendency to bring out the weak spots in the frost...

A cameo coin can have weak spots in the frost. You know that.

But I'm saying, it has a tendency to highlight that, and exagerate, the weak spots... also, look at Marty's auctions! So many times, he has "CAM" coins, that look completely brilliant!

And it's not the Obv that concerned me, that's a solid CAM... but the Reverse looked a little on the weak side, with a good bit of frost weakness in the middle of the sides... but that may just be from my unfamilariaty of doing my own pictures with a lampshade...

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Will that Jeff clean up nicer? If so it looks like it'd be an awsome coin, I haven't seen too many DCAM Jeffs from '65. (Not saying yours is DCAM of course image).

Very little. Most of the crap that looks like haze is embedded in the planchet.

Ahh, the thrill of victory! I love it. Nice hunting Russ. I love the hunt as much as I love getting nice grades back from PCGS! BTW, I never turn my head from any nice cameo proof up to 1972, no matter what denomination it is! The 65SMS nickel will cam at PCGS or I will be greatly surprised. Those dont come much nicer than your pic! JMHO.
