Copper and Carbon spot on coins.

Sometimes i feel like i'm the only one that holds this opinion, but am i the only one who sometimes thinks, 'wow that carbon spot actually looks rather nice just there?', or 'wow that copper spot on that sovereign is kinda eye appealing, it kinda just fits nice with the rest of the design?'

Most people avoid them like the plague, and with carbon spots i can understand this because it's corrosion (whereas a copper spot is an imbalance in the mix)... somehow though i find that if they are strategically placed they look much more like beauty spots.

Anyone else like them?

I don't like the spots, but that doesn't stop me from collecting the coins.

Silver has more than its share of problems as well, it's just that those problems get washed away in a dip more often, resulting in the more annoying issue of hairlines.

Gold gets spots too, from metallic impurities.

Well, if a spot makes Victoria look like she has leprosy or a black eye, then I'd sure avoid it ... but very small spots in "unimportant" areas are not a problem for me.

I can say that spots turn me completely off. I would rather have a bagmark than a spot. That being said, if it is a tiny spot and not on a focal point and is a coin I really want, then I may learn to live with it.

Sometimes carbon spots happen even on high end copper. Here is a 1900 large cent, both ICCS and PCGS MS-64 Red, with a spot on the reverse that may have kept it from being a 65 (it has a few minor hits also). Since neither service has ever graded a 65 Red, and the spot is not too objectionable, I bought the coin.
