Since I'm somewhat illiterate (actually, frustration plays the major role), can someone pm me regarding

the steps to take in order to attain a decent scan of a coin so I can get back into the "Swing of things" @

eBay? The scanner I've used in the past went on the fritz. I've yet to figure out how to use this new hp psc

1210 xi all-in-one scanner. Someone with the patience & time to possibly walk me through this process via

pm would be greatly appreciated.

The only help I can offer is to get a digital camera with nice macro for coin pics. Scanner pics don't look as good.

Those all-in-one devices are a headache in my opinion. Thye never seem to be the best of all functions as they intend to. Best of luck getting it working. It may take a call to HP.

I have some model of the HP 1210 all-in-one, and must say that coin scans from it are pretty lousy. If you don't know how to scan, all I remember is that you start in the HP Director that's installed with the drivers CD. It's not too hard to figure out if you've got a bit of time. One tip - up the DPI to 600 or so.

Maybe if you stated what kind of problem you are having you would get more replies.

I have an HP 3970 which I purchased because of this link and because my digital photography skills along with my patience level really suck.

I am pleased with the convenience of the scanner but not necessarily proud of the results. So, exactly what kind of problems are you having?

Problems:
#1) Lost instruction manuel.
#2) Far different than my original scanner.
#3) Pixel sizes and all that other crap that make the pic proportions adequate for the auction provider.
#4) Patience.
#5)Though it's self explanitory to the majority of people using this type of scanner, or scanners in general, I, on the otherhand, have a disability in the comprehensive area largely due to lack of #4.

If you have Windows XP, just run the camera/scanner wizard. You can customize the amout of pixels you want in the wizard. Go to HP web sight and download the right drivers. If you dont have XP, then just install the program that came with it. If you lost it then just down load it from HP web sight. I have the 1315xi and I can get the pixels per inch all the way up to 19000 if I want to. It takes about half an hour to scan a Lincoln Cent, but it look really nice!!

Oh yea, and once you scan it, if the file is too big to post to a web sight, then open it with Windows Picture and Fax veiwer. Then go to image size and change the pixel/inch size ( the lower the amount the less space to save). And when you click save as, change it to a .jpeg if it isnt already. If ya got any questions, just ask, I am more than happy to help.

You can download a copy of the owners manual in Adobe Acrobat format from the HP website. There are some other problem solving links, although I can't vouch for their effectiveness.

One of the options on the page is "Chat with an online technician". Don't know if there is a charge for that.
