PIZZED....OK, Now not so PIZZED...This is getting funny! Coin has found a new home!

I may be burning a bridge here, and only for an $8 + shipping coin, but when a felllow member sells a coin as......."A superior gem graded coin. This coin is graded by PCGS the leader of the independent grading firms. A no problem coin that I was able to upgrade in my registry set."

and it comes here looking like this.....

imageimageimage

I am presuming I will get my money bad, but why the false description?

  • Let's say one of you intended to send this coin to be graded. Wouldn't you dip it first to remove those fingerprints? I'm just curious-- I would've at least consulted NCS.

Sorry Aija but it's sort of comical in a sick twisted way.

8.00 or 800.00, that coin sure looks like a POS

    A superior gem graded coin.

I think you have every right to be pissed if somebody describes THAT coin with the above phrase, and the phrase about no problems. Truly lame....

Come on Russ, this is true 'cross-hatch' patterning, much more valuable!

Maybe it was a joke ?

Have you contacted the seller and gotten a response ?

  • stmanstman Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭✭
So what's the problem? I see folks posting their high grade 66-67 "Monster Rainbow" high dollar
Morgans and other series with prints all over them. Give me a few more hits on the coin without the
terrible mishandling and yes abuse IMO any day. Yes, I'd be upsetimage and would blast them no matter board member
held in high regard or not. OH, I'm sorry, board members usually get free pass for this kinda stuff.image

was it shipped with a 37c stamp affixed to a plain white envelope after you paid for insurance?image
  • ajiaajia Posts: 5,411 ✭✭✭
    Sent a PM RIGHT AWAY.

Not online at the moment, but was so PO'ed that I needed to vent here.
Glad I did, as you wannabe (there, I said it) comidians have made me feel better.

In fact, if the seller won't take it back I have an offer to buy it! image For a grading class. image

The fact that the listing grossly misrepresented the coin is what I have a problem with.
    Is that just me?

Deceptive sales practices and un-called for hosing of a fellow forum member aside...... I'm sorry, but that coin is hilarious!! I laughed out loud when I saw it. I think it deserves to be in a home where people can laugh and point, not hidden away.image

No problem . . . Augie donated the coin so I can use it in a grading class we teach at the ANA. The course is one we offer at conventions and "on teh road". It is "Introduction to Grading US Coins" and is a fundamental course on learning the basics of grading. The course focuses on the history and theory of grading, first points of wear, evaluating surface marks, strike, luster, and eye appeal with circulated and uncirculated coins. It is a 2 or 3 day class with LOTS of hands on activiites.

This coin will be used to show how coins can "change" in holders and the damaging effects of mishandling.

If any member has other coins they feel might be helpful in teaching others the subtle nature of grading, please let me know. The more tools we have the better can educate our fellow collectors.

For those who will be in SF for the ANA show this July, we will be holding a 2-day intensified grading course. If you want registration information, please let me know at "brunner@money.org" as the seats fill up fast!

Thanks Augie for your generous gift . . . it will be a great addition to our numismatic tool belt!

Ok a big SORRY to all.
This coin was in my set for over a year.
And the picture was in the regitery at that time. The picture was not doctored in any way just croped.
This coin was purchased from another board menber in Feb of 2004.
This coin has now been threw three of our hands.
Augies PayPal payment has been refunded.
And I am glad he gave me a chance to make things right.
But it would of been nice if he would of contacted me prior to posting here.
All of my dealings are on a satifaction garenteed basis.
I have bought from and sold to quit a few of you and hope to continue the fellow ship.
But if you all feel I am untrusted I will leave the forums.
    Syl.
