If the seller has allowed the option, you can simply submit your best offer below their asking price.

Example: Seller has an item listed at $100.00, you click submit best offer, type in $75.00, and submit. Seller then has the option to accept or decline the offer. If the seller accepts, it's closed and you own it.

Be careful though. Most coin auctions only allow you to place one offer. If it is rejected, you can't make another offer. Silly low-bid offers typically won't pay off.

Its an option the seller adds to a fixed price auction only if he chooses to allow it when creating the listing. It shows up as a link "Submit Best Offer". Example you might see a "Buy It Now" listing for a 16-D Mercury at $1000. You'll have to click on the lisiting to see if the Best Offer option has been provided. A good seller will let you know in the title.

You look at the listing and figure $850 sounds good. You enter that in the appropriate field and the seller has 2 days
to respond to it by either accepting, denying or allowing it to expire. You can't use it to snipe since it requires the seller to respond before the lisiting ends. If you do it with a few seconds left, the seller cant respond and the listing ends. For coins, an Ebay id is only allowed 1 offer per lisiting.

I've used it - it works well. As always choose your sellers wisely.

tsacch, here's a link to my current auction which has the best offer option. I have had several low ball offers made and of course, rejected. I believe those people are now locked out from any more offers as mentioned previously? I personally like the format for bigger $ coins where it becomes more of a negotiation than an outright auction or fixed price listing.
