1911 GB proofs

I have a 1911 GB florin, sold to me as a proof, that has the sharp rims of a proof and the toning consistent with coins stored in proof cases, but it also has obvious die polish lines on both sides. Does anyone know if the proof dies were polished like that, or could this be a business strike made with recycled proof dies? image

    Yes I do believe the Proof dies were polished due when wear became evident.

    Thanks, Wybrit! Mine is definitely a proof, then. I've just never seen one with die polish lines before. I'm sending it to NGC as soon as I get back from Europe and I'll let you know how it grades. image

    The other thing I've noted about the 1911 proofs is that they tend to tone to a very deep purple/brown color. You will still see much reflective lustre even if toned in this manner.
