Coin Tracking Software - Which is best?

What software do you use to track your coins? What's best feature/worst feature? I've tried a few shareware programs that were dogs adn am hoping to hear from the Board as to a direction to look. Perhaps an excel spreadsheet will do fine.....

Oh and if anyone has built a good spreadsheet or DB they would like to 'share' let me know, If I like it I'd be willing to pay for it.

We have been in the development stage for this kind of appilcation "Coin Tracker" for over a year.

Hopefully, our web team will have it available free within the next months.

The idea will be to be able to keep track of you collection using our a secure login.

As a free service, the "My Collection" program at Heritage is quite nice. Lots of flexibility, and I like the thought that it is stored away from my system. It has all the info I need.

Used to use Coin Elite. A good package except for a few problems. So I decided to created my own with Excel.

That was about 3 years ago. Maybe the problems have been worked out. I just wasn't patient enought to wait.

I tried a number of them awhile back before settling on Coin Collector Plus by Carlisle. Lots of nice features, and very good support.

I installed with and played with a few free trial ones couple years ago. Settled on MS Excel, which tracks my purchases along with my type set wantlist in one big table. It's nice because I can add columns at will, like a registry weight column so I can compute a weighted ranking just like PCGS does. I also have the spreadsheet as a linked table in an MS Access database - it's nice for running queries like show me all the 19th century stuff, or what I don't own yet, etc.

I use Excel for both light side and dark side material.

With the help of another board member I developed a pretty extensive Excel workbook to keep track of every country from 1900 to present if your interested.

I've never used any kind of computerized program for my coins. I have been just making a list of what I want, need or don't want or need on a piece of scratch paper. Been doing that for over 50 years so it's difficult to change now. If I was a better computer person I would probably just make an Excell spreadsheet like so many other forum members have said they did.
