A Rare Key Date 2¢

1872 business strikes are the key date for 2¢ pieces (along with the 1864 Small Motto). It is estimated that only 65,000 were produced and that many were subsequently melted down by the Mint. Many collectors of high grade 2¢ pieces either settle for proofs or wait a long time before a suitable high grade business strike becomes available - I waited, and waited. For the 2¢ variety collector one of the most difficult coins to obtain is the 1872 FS # 2¢ - 006, a double die obverse with doubling on the right side of the motto, especially on TRUST, as well as on the leaves below TRUST. A URS-6 (Universal Rarity Scale, 17-32 known), these don't come easy. I was very fortunate to obtain the coin pictured below from Rick Snow, Eagle Eye Rare Coins. It has super luster and exceptional eye appeal IMO - a nice coin for the grade.

I've had my eye out for about 2 years, but seriously looking for just over a year - I got lucky.

Not quite, and there are several varieties that I'm looking for; hope to do both business strikes and proofs.
