Went coin shopping downtown Chicago today and cleaned them out of sealed proof sets.
This is what I came home with.
8-1964 proof sets
13-1963 proof sets
2-1962 proof sets
4-1961 proof sets

Out of the 64s
2 AH Kennedy
5 Nothing
1 Cameo Lincoln

Out of the 63s
1 Cameo Washington
7 Nothing
5 Cameo Franklin

Out of the 62s
2 Nothing

Out of the 61s
4 Nothing

It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I'm curious. Why so many proof sets and why from the place usually known as the most expensive around Chicago. I've been there many times and they are not at all flexible with their prices and they are usually higher than everyone else that I know of. Do you know someone there? They usually do have a great variety and stockpile of just about everything but their prices have always kept me at bay. Have you ever tried the place on the 5th floor of Carson's downtown on State Street, if it's still there. That coin/stamp counter was much more flexible in prices but limited in availability of items. Don't know if you flea market but there is a flea market called Wolf's on Manheim Rd, North of North Ave about a block or so North, that has 3 to 4 coin dealers and one of them has lots of proof sets. Lots and lots cheaper than that place on Clark Street downtown.

I think you answered your own question! I like the guys at HB, they let me look through their stuff and never complain. For proof sets there prices are flexible if you buy in quantity!

Very true about the people that work there. I've had one guy open the thing blocking the window coins and just about crawl over stuff to get me a lousy coin that was for a few dollars and smile the whole time. Got to admit they are freindly and always willing to spend a few minutes shooting the breeze if not to busy. I was going to go in a week or so myself if no luck at the Itaska show on the 15th.
