Does anyone have a wildly toned Spanish Trail?

I know they rarely, if ever, come with any type of pretty toning...... but surely someone out there must own one. Lets see it !

I don't recall ever having seen a Spanish Trail that I'd describe as "wildly toned". Of course I'm getting up there in age and it's possible that I've seen them and forgotten.image Either way, that's a REALLY tough issue to locate with great color.

I have a very light blue and green toned one. I was fortunate enough to be called first on it by Jon Rosenthal when it came into RCNH last year. It's not wildly toned but it is, definitely, toned.

Never saw a wildly toned Spanish Trail either. In my opinion most of them look like crap. Tough coin to get with real eye appeal, and wildy toned? It would be round filed if a customer gave me that as a want list coin.

Mike Cali's is white... that means they've got to be hard to find toned! image

Tcmitssr, that is a neat coin and I'm glad that you enjoyed it. I enjoyed handling it. The most attractively original toned ST we've seen in many years. No, it's not a monster rainbow but the blue-green color as you described is unusual yet quite beautiful for the issue.

  • I sold a really amazing PCGS MS67 Spanish Trail to Harold Rothenberger in 1993. It was toned in brilliant shades of amber, bronze, red and green. It was the prettiest Spanish Trail that I have ever had the privilege of handling. By the way, it was Lot # 94 in the Superior Auction Galleries sale of the Harold Rothenberger Collection on January 31, 1994.
